Dry Creek Flashes
Good report, good food made my day

Aug. 14 was my doctor’s day. Dr. Jack Rhody makes you feel so good. His good looks, friendly smile, handshake and sometimes a kiss on the cheek just builds you up and does something for your “ego,” at least for a 95-year-old patient.
His nurses, Faye and Tena, are very dependable and are number one nurses. I loved my students and had Faye at Smithville Elementary.
We truly appreciate our doctors and nurses in DeKalb County.
Have you seen Dr. Hugh Don Cripps in the St. Thomas ads on television? He looks very nice and professional.
Let’s let them know how much we appreciate their service.
Sarah Cripps, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Cripps, was a delight as one of our students at Smithville Elementary. We could never forget Sarah. We have watched her all through her progress in education. We feel honored to have had her in early education.
We are so proud of all her endeavors and even singing at the Jamboree. Sarah was never bashful.
Life is never easy. We grew up and went to school during the “Great Depression.” It wasn’t easy, but hard work and tough times won’t kill you, maybe makes you appreciate what you have and where you live.
After seeing Dr. Rhody, we stopped by Kilgore’s Restaurant to take care of our hunger. We always see our friends, everyone says that they read and enjoy the “Dry Creek Flashes.” We love the fact that they take time to read the column. Be glad you can read. Reading makes the problems we face much easier to solve.
We saw Janey Love Knowles, a nice and lovely lady who knows how to make you feel good and “important.”
At a distance we saw Wanda Poss, a lady who helps senior citizens. We all love and appreciate Wanda.
Also having lunch at Kilgore’s was Mai Lattimore, a student of the late W.W. Frazier, at Mahatey Elementary.
She is recovering from a broken hip. Our love and best wishes go to Mai for a complete recovery.
Estelle said she saw Mr. Glen Page. We say hello to Mr. Page, a former principal at Smithville Elementary.
Also, it was so good to see and talk with Guylene Atnip, a good friend in the Eastern Star.
Not only did I get to see so many nice friends, but I also got to enjoy one of Kilgore’s delicious ribeye steaks and extra vegetables.
A good report from Dr. Rhody, seeing many friends and good food made my day.
On his way to Chattanooga, our grandson, Jeff Fuson, of Paris, stopped by the valley to visit his grandmother, Louise Frazier, and other relatives.
Jeff is an electrical engineer with T.V.A. We enjoyed his visit. He is the son of Wayne T. Fuson and Deborah Frazier Fuson of Cabot, Ark. His wife is Meg Fuson. Austin and Alayna are his twin children.
We send special get-well wishes to Debbie O’Conner. She is now in Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. She had surgery on Aug. 14.
Her mother, Helen Burt, is with her. Our prayers are with Debbie and her family for a safe and complete surgery and recovery.
Congratulations go to Goodletsville All-Stars Little League Team. They will be going to the World Series in Pennsylvania.
My brother, James Keyt, who lives close to Columbus, Ga., has a grandson, Garret Keyt, who plays on the traveling team. We think the Goodletsville team played against Garrett’s team.
Garrett is a big and stocky 10-year-old who plays hind-catcher and has earned many trophies.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Keyt.
We admire these young boys who started early to prepare to be good athletes for the future. Best wishes go to this Tennessee team for a win.
Bro. and Mrs. Donald Owens attended the graduation of their grandson, Grant Owens, at M.T.S.U. Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Saturday.
Bro. Donald Owens preached a wonderful Biblical sermon Sunday morning on “Three Important Things” namely, “Life, Death and the Judgement,” from Genesis II, Romans 5:12, and Rev. 20, and IThes. 4.
The youth group was in charge of the Sunday night service. Dry Creek Baptist Church have many talented youth. We are very proud of our youth who did a great service on Sunday evening. Bro. Donald Owens reports that the youth did a superb job Sunday evening.
Dry Creek Baptist Church welcomes everyone to attend church! You will be glad you did.
Bro. Donald Owens, pastor.
