After a heavy down pour of rain the evening before, all was peaceful and calm on Labor Day morning with an overcast sky and a forecast of more rain for the rest of the week.
We are thankful for the rain, and we do need more rain.
Most gardens are still producing green beans and peas.
DeKalb County historian, Tommy Webb still raises the old time whip-o-will. They were my late husband’s favorite field pea. Mrs. Mary Cantrell grew them as long as she lived.
It was good to see Bobby Joines at Dry Creek Baptist Church on Sunday morning. Due to a stroke several years ago, Mary Joines is at home taking therapy.
We say hello to Mary and our prayers, love and best wishes go to the Joines Family.

Kenny Edge flew to Dallas, Texas, to attend the Haas Reunion.
Susan Brown met Kenny at the airport and took him to the cabin on the lake where the great-granddaughters of Charlie Haas had prepared delicious food for the reunion.
Kenny was the house guest of Paul and Susan Brown for the weekend. They were gracious hosts and showed Kenny around their city and the major points of interest.
Susan Brown is writing a book on the History of the Haas Family.
He reported his trip was enjoyable and he met many of his Haas relatives that he had never known. Nell Haas Driver is the daughter of the late Henry Haas of Snow Hill.
Jim and Judy Kimbrell were hosts to a covered dish dinner at their home on Sunday. Thirty family members and friends were present.
Events at Dry Creek Baptist for September-November are as follows, Sept. 27 the seniors will go out to eat at Cheddars in Cookeville and will go shopping after; Oct. 25 the senior adults will go to Fall Creek Falls to sight-see and have dinner with Bro. Owens at the park cafeteria; and on Nov. 14 the church will have its church-wide Thanksgiving Supper and church service.
Dry Creek Baptist celebrated Labor day on Sept. 2 with a musical concert by Nancy Owens of Lebanon.
Following the special singing banana splits and hot bologna sandwiches were served in the fellowship hall.
