Pea Ridge reunion held

The Pea Ridge Reunion is held every year on the second Saturday in September. Thirty-five classmates, teachers, parents and friends attended this year.
Like the song “We Are Going Down the Valley One by One,” we truly miss the people who are no longer with us.
Mr. Thomas was so helpful and enjoyed this event. He left us several years ago. His wife Bobby Jean also enjoys the reunion, but she has health problems, so we never know our future. Bud Hale left us this past year, so his presence was missed.
The Clay Cook family is always well represented. We missed Beatrice and Wilma who live in Phoenix, Ariz.
John and Betty Helen represented the Palmer Cook family. We remember the support that this family gave to the Pea Ridge School.
John Henry Parker and his sister attended. Van Davis of McMinnville attended too. It was good to see Van, Phillip Hale and all who attended.
Former teachers present were Jenel Pugh, Bobbye Jean Thomas and Louise Frazier.
Two teachers who are still teaching who attend each year and help with this even in so many ways are Jan Thomas and Lisa Frazier Cripps. We appreciate them. Everyone received door prizes.
Please remember those on the sick list: Glen Faircloth, Jimmy Midgett, James Hale, Mary and Bobby Joines, Junior Hibdon, Mary Snow, Edward and Frances Frazier, Edsel Frazier, Susan Hinton, Claire Waggoner, Gary Grobeck, Amy Miller, Joe and Carolyn Dicky, Jim Cripps, Faye Frazier and Debbie O’Conner.
It’s harvest time in the Dry Creek Valley and other places such as kraut making, apple jelly and  spicy applesauce from Rome apples at Griffin’s Fruit Market and Muscadine jelly if you can find muscadine.
Several people are still canning green beans and field peas.
Last Tuesday we made white muscadine jelly from Judy Redmon. Thanks Judy.
Staff Sgt. Michael Carter and wife who have just returned from Afghanistan, were weekend guests of his uncle Jimmy and Judy Kimbrell. Michael is a career soldier in the United States Army. Best wishes go to Michael and his wife who is also in the military.
Did you attend the DCHS football game at Van Hoosier Stadium Friday night or listen to the broadcast on WJLE? What a thriller! The score was 32-13 with DeKalb being the winner.
Mr. Pyor did such a good job calling the game, but he really got excited and that’s good.
Smith County couldn’t get past 13 points. Molandar and Chapman made two interception which helped the Tigers.
DeKalb Tigers remain unbeaten. “Go Tigers!”
Mrs. Lisa Cripps of Dismal Road visited her mother Louise Frazier Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Jeanette France was sick over the weekend. She visited Mrs. Louise Frazier Wednesday and says that she is much better with her coughing.
A heavy rain fell all day Monday and into the night. The rain gauge here in the valley measured four percent. We needed the rain and are so thankful for it.
Bro. Donald Owens preached Sunday’s Homecoming message at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Lebanon.
Bro. Don Elmore delivered the message at Dry Creek Baptist Church for the morning worship services.
Dates to remember at Dry Creek Baptist are on Sept. 27 the senior adults will go out to eat and shop in Cookeville; Oct. 7 the church will take up the Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions; Oct. 20 there will be a four-wheeler ride on Dry Creek and everyone needs to bring a sack lunch; Oct. 25 the senior adults will go to Fall Creek Falls to sightsee and have dinner with Bro. Owens at the park cafeteria; Oct. 27 is the Harvest Festival and hayride with chili, soup and hotdogs; and on Nov. 14 the church will have its church-wide Thanksgiving Supper and church service.
Worship services every Sunday are Sunday school at 10 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome, Bro. Don Owens, pastor.
