Dry Creek Flashes
Back to the Amish country

A brisk wind was blowing in the beautiful valley of Dry Creek on the morning of Sept. 24.
The house was cold, and we were almost tempted to go back to a warm bed, but then we remembered that this was the day that Dry Creek Baptist Seniors were going back to Amish Country near Scottsville, Ky.
We opened the door to feed Fluffy as she was standing upright begging for her morning Friskies. It was cold outside.
We were colder than before, but remembering that Bro. Donald Owens reminded the seniors that 8:30 a.m. sharp was the departure time for the church bus and that was the time they would be at the Frazier home. We hurried to turn the the coffee on  and get ready for the trip.
Early risers Jimmy and Becky Womack, who know every crook and corner of Amish country, had already made a circle in the driveway and gone on to the church.
Jimmy and Becky are so kind and patient and direct the group where to stop, get the best buys and where to eat. We thank them so much for their help.
Our first stop was the Sorghum Store where I believe everyone purchased a good supply of sorghum.
They were not making the good-tasting sweet breakfast food this Monday. This was a disappointment to those who were on the trip for the first time.
The beautiful horses which power the mill were grazing in the grassy field next to the uncut sugar cane.
The Habegger family has a variety of stores with all kinds of fresh vegetables, canned products such as Damson plum preserves, pickled squash and okra and corn salsa.
Gail Crips bought some delicious molasses cookies. We even bought those good stainless steel knives.
Bro. Donald Owens had a truck load of food to bring home. Thanks to our drivers Albert Tomilson and Bobby Robinson and thanks to Bro. Owens.
Congratulations go to Pharmacist Jared Hendrix, who was the employee of the month at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. Your church, community and family are very proud of you.
Tim France and daughters of Smithville and Justin France visited Jeanette France, Tuesday.
Sunday dinner guests at the home of Louise Frazier were Henry and Natalie Frazier and Jacob, Huntsville, Ala., Jim and Judy Kimbrell, Old Mill Hill Road, Roger and Kathy Hendrix and Kenny Edge, Dry Creek.
Lisa Cripps, Dismal Road, visited her mother Louise Frazier Tuesday evening.
We are thankful for any rain that we get in our forecast for Friday.
Congratulations go to DCHS Tigers Football team who defeated the Hixson Football Team 42-13 at VanHoosier Stadium last Friday night and thanks to WJLE and John Pryor for bringing the game into our homes. We love football and a faithful fan of the Tigers. Keep winning.
Seven seniors of Dry Creek Baptist Church enjoyed an outing Thursday with Pastor Donald Owens. The group had a delicious meal at Cheddars in Cookeville. In the afternoon, they had a shopping trip at Belk Department Store.
Mrs. Georgia Hawker reported that Mr. James Hale was doing fine at his new location in Hendersonville and that he had gained 20 pounds. So glad that our former valley neighbor’s health is much improved.
We need to remember our sick and shut-in friends. Bobby and Mary Joines, Junior Hibson, Claire Waggoner, Mary Snow, Glen Faircloth, Debbie O’Conner, Carroll Thomas, Wayne T. Fuson, Gary Grobeck and all who need our prayers.
Bro. W.L. Baker of Lebanon was guest speaker at the evening worship service at Dry Creek Baptist Church Sunday.
Dates to remember at Dry Creek Baptist are on Oct. 7 when the church will take up the Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions; Oct. 20 there will be a four-wheeler ride on Dry Creek and everyone needs to bring a sack lunch; Oct. 25 the senior adults will go to Fall Creek Falls to sightsee and have dinner with Bro. Owens at the park cafeteria; Oct. 27 is the Harvest Festival and hayride with chili, soup and hotdogs; Nov. 14 the church will have its church-wide Thanksgiving Supper and church service; Nov. 28 will be International Missions Emphasis; and then Dec. 2 will be the church’s week of prayer for Foreign Missions.
Everyone is welcome at Dry Creek Baptist Church, Bro. Donald Owens, pastor.
