It was good to see Elen Hayes at Brenda’s Kut-n-Kurl Friday. She said that she missed the DeKalb Retired Teacher’s meeting at DeKalb Community Hospital Thursday due to a doctor’s appointment.
We regret to report the death of Buelah Davis Avant of Alexandria. She was a beloved sister to all who knew her in the Order of the Eastern Star. She will be remembered for her dedicated service to the OES chapter in this area.
We met Buelah the year we came to DeKalb County and attended DCHS together that fall. She was a wonderful lady. Later in life we served together in the Alexandria Order of the Eastern Star. It was privilege to have known Buelah.
Lisa Cripps and Louise Frazier attended Beulah’s memorial service at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria.
Bro. Donald Owens received a call from Jack and Frankie Watkins of Westin, North Carolina. We sure do miss the Watkins who were frequent visitors of Dry Creek Baptist Church.
We say hello to them from all of their friends in the Dry Creek Valley and wish the best for them in their new location.
Lisa Patton, my favorite weather forecaster, predicts frost for about all of Tennessee. We are sure it’s coming before we are ready for our beautiful Petticoat Ferns and our huge Boston Ferns to be bitten from that cold white frost.
Oh well, spring follows winter, and if we are still around we will visit Mary’s Greenhouse in Warren County.
Congratulations to the DCHS Tigers. We heard some new names making good plays. Eli Gill recovered a fumble. We had his dad in school. Now Eli is a nice young Tiger playing for DCHS. That is just wonderful. The Tigers won over Macon County 45-7. Macon County scored in the last quarter. Go Tigers! Win, win, win!
Mrs. Debbie O’Conner, who is recovering from recent surgery is spending this week with her mother Mrs. Helen Burt. Our prayers, love and best wishes go to Debbie.
Mrs. Lisa Cripps fixed a delicious supper for Mr. and Mrs. Jared Hendrix. She enjoyed visiting with the new baby, Sawyer Allen. Mr. and Mrs. Jordon Cripps and Christian joined them for supper.
Our community extends sincere sympathy to the family of JoAnn Moore of Smithville in its time of sorrow. JoAnn will be remembered as a very kind loving lady. She has many friends who regret her passing. May God comfort Mary Snow and all her relatives.
It is turnip greens’ time in the valley. Bob Earl and Linda Fuston have a patch of those delicious greens at their home on McMinnville Highway. They visited us and brought a good supply of nice turnip greens. Thanks go to them from someone who is not really able to pick turnips greens.
Then on Tuesday our former neighbor and nice friend Jimmy Womack cam in smiling with three big sacks of turnip greens. We have them ready to pack and freeze. Thanks, Jimmy for the turnip greens and thanks for your kindness.
Bob Earl was my student at Dry Creek Elementary. We have known him all of his life.
Jimmy was a small boy when we came to the valley. Both men were good neighbors and our friends.
Church activities to remember: On Oct. 20 there will be a four-wheeler ride on Dry Creek and everyone needs to bring a sack lunch; Oct. 25 the senior adults will go to Fall Creek Falls to sightsee and have dinner with Bro. Owens at the park cafeteria; Oct. 27 is the Harvest Festival and hayride with chili, soup and hotdogs; Nov. 14 the church will have its church-wide Thanksgiving supper and church service.
Dry Creek Baptist, the “little” big church in this beautiful valley, strives to meet your spiritual needs. Please attend. Welcome to everyone.
Pastor Donald Owens has been in God’s ministry for over 60 years. He is a friendly, kind, patient and caring pastor leader and friends who knows God.
