August will soon be over and the month of Sept. is fast approaching. This is a very busy month for “Country Folk.” We homemakers harvest pears, apples and other fruits.
Turnip greens are not quite ready. Field peas are abundant and maybe if it would rain our neighbor, Jeanette France, would have cornfield beans. They are so delicious with fresh green tomato pickles and hot buttered corn meal fritters, plus a slice of red tomato.
Many times we overlook some people who help you when you are in the hospital and then if you need their services when you go home they are there to help you recover. These are the most kind and helpful people, namely, Home Health and therapists, who come to assist you at your home. We know three good therapists, Melissa Gerringer, Kim Foutch, and Charlie Tramel and have known them for many years. Many thanks go out to them for their services.
Mrs. Tawania Box and daughter, Makay spent Sunday with her mother, Ms. Jeanette France. Jeanette is recovering nicely from recent surgery.
Mrs. Judy Kimbrell, Mrs. Kathy Hendrix, and Mrs. Lisa Cripps attended a Bridal Tea for Miss Rebecca Ann Frazier, who will marry Mr. Mark Smith. The wedding is set for Oct. 1. Rebecca is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buchanon Frazier of Huntsville, Ala. the wedding will take place in Huntsville, Ala.
It was good to talk with Mrs. Judy Fuson of Smithville on Wednesday. She and some other ladies are working on a book of historical places of interest to people who live in DeKalb Co.
DeKalb Co. has many places that are nice to know about. In our community, we have the old mill, known as Cripps Mill, and one of the biggest caves in Tenn. The cave is on the W.D. Womack Farm. We also have many more cave.
When you are retired, most people have some time when they can think of those who do a wonderful job of helping others.
We would like to recognize Dry Creek Baptist Church for its help with others.
Every Wednesday, a group of dedicated Christians fire up the stoves, grill, or whatever is needed and prepare a delicious well-balanced hot meal that is free to everyone who enters the Fellowship Hall. This is a great service that is headed up by Jimmy Kimbrell and several more. Even Pastor Donald Owens is there to help, “supervise,” and even cooks his own dried beans and cabbage. It takes cooperation, dedication, and God’s blessings.
God has truly blessed Dry Creek Baptist Church in this endeavor. Meals are taken to the sick and shut-ins.
This is a most needed project for the members who are old, stroke victims or for other reasons, can’t attend church services. May God bless these people.
God in his mercy and love has again taken a wonderful lady, dedicated Christian, friend and relative to many in the Dry Creek Valley, and a familiar name in neighboring Dowelltown, Charles (Chase) Ellege Davis. God has taken her to her Eternal Home in Heaven.
In Oct. there will be Harvest Festival, Jesse Haun, Hay Ride and Chili Supper to follow. In Nov. there will be a Thanksgiving supper.
Dry Creek Baptist is the “little church” in the country, ministering to the Dry Creek Community and nearby communities for over 120 years. Everyone is welcome to all services. Bro. Donald Owens, pastor.
