Violent thunder, lighting and high winds hit the Dry Creek Valley late last Sunday afternoon which brought darkness everywhere. The TV went out and chairs, flower pots and other objects on the patio were displaced by the high winds during the storm which lasted about an hour.
Heavy downpours of rain sounded like big rocks hitting the dry earth. We needed the rain and were thankful for it. We were afraid of the storm and prayed for God’s protection.
Years ago the Dry Creek Stream, which meanders down the valley, would flood every farm in the valley, but now since the Frazier family and others have built dikes around our fields, most of the problem is solved .
Several people still have the flu. Tom Cripps of Liberty is back in DeKalb Community Hospital. Please remember him in prayer. Others who are sick are David and Monica Reynolds and Levi, Judy Kimbrell, Bobby and Mary Joins, Glen Faircloth, Carroll Thomas, Joe and Carolyn Dickey and Joe Ayers. We send special get-well wishes to them.
Bob Earl and Linda Fuston of Smithville visited Louise Frazier Wednesday. Linda had been to the doctor for shingles, which she has had many months. Keep the Fustons in your prayers.
Mrs. Lisa Cripps and Christine visited Mrs. Louise Frazier Sunday.
Thanks for all the calls for the past few weeks. No, I am not sick. The bad weather and the flu are things that I have to avoid. Thanks also to Marline Prichard for the gift card.
A large crowd attended the memorial service held on Jan. 10 for a native and former resident of the Dry Creek Valley, Audrey Vandagriff Frazier, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel on Rev. Donald Owens officiated the service. She was laid to rest in DeKalb Memorial Gardens beside her late husband of 47 years, Jim Roy Frazier.
Audrey was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who because of her husband’s illness at a very early age became the only support for her family.
Her family was very dear to her as long as she lived.
They moved from the farm to a house on Dry Creek Road which she maintained until her death.
For the past several years, she had lived at the home of her daughter, Sherry and Harry Williams, near Knoxville. When possible, the family would spend weekends at her house in Smithville.
Audrey was a kind and patient lady who had worked hard most of her life.
She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. “To know her was to love her.” Dry Creek Baptist Church provided dinner for the family on Thursday.
Charles Vernon Bass and Selone Bass and husband Ted Lum of Akron, Ohio were here for the funeral.
Jack and Helen Frazier of Cunningham attended the funeral and many other relatives who lived out of state were also there.
Dry Creek Community extends sincere sympathy to the Frazier family in the loss of its loved one.
Dry Creek Baptist Church is back on its regular service schedule, which is Sunday school at 10 a.m., morning worship at 11 a.m., evening fellowship at 4:45 p.m. and evening worship at 5:15 p.m. Then on Wednesday hot meals are served from 5-6:15 p.m. and prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.
Everyone is welcome at Dry Creek Baptist, Bro. Donald Owens, pastor.
...I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die. Believest thou this? (John 12:25-26).
