Dry Creek Valley has always been known for its birds with a variety of songbirds; however, there is one, the robin, which is rarely ever seen in the Valley.
For the past few days, we have seen six to eight robins hopping on the ground and pulling earthworms out of the wet soil for their food.
We never see robins at the birdfeeders. The robin is a beautiful bird with a burnt orange breast. Seeing them means that spring is just around the corner.
We sure hope so, because we are ready for warmer weather, flowers and green fields.
During our shut-in days we read when the printed letters are large enough. This week we have enjoyed reading the Co-op magazine. It contained such interesting articles.
Donald and Cynthia Mullican of Lebanon visited his parents Garry and Betty Mullican in Possum Hollow and had a delicious breakfast with them on Saturday morning.
Inez Farler of Snow Hill visited Louise Frazier Saturday afternoon.
Some very special people are having birthdays in March.
Our cousins by marriage, Edward and Edsel Frazier of Smithville. They will celebrate on March 13. These two men are very special to us as “kinfolk” we love and admire.
We remember when they were boys and went to Smithville to go off to World War II leaving their parents behind in the Dry Creek Valley. That was a sad day.
Sarah Helen Colwell had a birthday on March 7.
Bro. Donald Owens, a very busy man, doesn’t have much time for birthdays, but we are sure Dry Creek Baptist Church where he was brought up and Ordained into the ministry will have him find time to celebrate his birthday on March 30. Congratulations to these who have birthdays.
Mrs. Frances Frazier visited Mrs. Louise Frazier and family Sunday afternoon.
Lisa Cripps attended the Beta Theta, Delta Kappa Gamma meeting in McMinnville Tuesday afternoon.
Remember these people who are on the sick or shut-in list: Sue Higham, recovering from surgery; Jimmy Midgett; Claire Waggoner, who had surgery March 12; James Keyt; Linda Fuston; Jimmy Ervin; Carroll Thomas; Bro. W.L. Baker; Joe and Carolyn Dickey; Ralph Colombarini; Vena Fuston; D.Y. Young; Joe Gunter; Tom Cripps; Bobby and Mary Joines; Glen and Cindy Faircloth; and Audrey Owens.
It was good to talk with Royce Holcomb of Smithville this week. She and her twin sister, Loyce Odum, are nice, friendly ladies to know. Love and best wishes to them.
Our neighbor Jennette France is good to have around. She just calls to see how her “old” neighbor is doing and if we had needs for those cold blistering days. Thanks Jeanette.
The Colombarinis of Old Mill Hll Road paid a visit to Louise Frazier Wednesday afternoon. They brought a beautiful piece of Louie’s hand-made pottery filled with fresh flowers of daisies, mums and spring flowers. We enjoyed their visit and many thanks for the gifts.
Thanks to whomever brought turnip greens to my patio. They were delicious.
Our community sends sincere sympathy to the families of Kennith Vanatta and Quentin Caplinger in their time of sorrow. May God comfort them in the loss of their loved ones.
Twenty years ago on Feb. 28, 1993, my husband left us with 54 years of precious memories. We still keep our promise to him when our family meet at home once a week for food and family fellowship.
Welcome to Dry Creek Baptist Church, Bro. Don Owens, pastor.
Oh Lord be gracious to us...Be our strength every morning. (Isaiah 33:2). Niv.
