The humming birds have flown south, wherever they go.
On an average there were 25-30 on the petunia’s, mandevilles, dipthavillar, and other common flowers. We saw the first humming bird in late April. On Monday of last week we saw one and one on Thursday. This week there are none. Only one red throat was seen this year for one day. Several shiny green back humming birds were seen off and on all summer.
On these cool mornings we have many of our winter bird. Some blue jays, a few cardinals, finches, and a few Eastern Blue Birds. This tells us to be prepared to buy sunflower seed which they really like. We try to do this by Nov. 1. We love our birds and get so much enjoyment from our feathered friends.
We have been blessed with some beautiful fall days, with pleasant days and cool nights. Some predict a bad winter. We do not know, but we do know to let a frost fall on the persimmons before you eat them. David and Monica Reynolds have a tree on their property.
Pastor appreciation night was on Oct. 9. Special invited guests conducted this service.
Bro. Donald Owens was born and grew up in the valley, attended Dry Creek Elementary School, and Dry Creek Baptist Church. This is where his father was a deacon and his family attended and were members. Donald was called into God’s ministry at an early age, about 14 years old we believe. He was ordained to preach along with Grady Crook, whom many remember was the pastor at Elizabeth Chapel Church for many years.
Bro. W.D. Thomason of Murfreesboro was in charge of the service and brought the evening message.
Bro. Bill Cox and his wife Catherine sang special music. Catherine played a melody of gospel hymns.
Bro. Donald has been pastor at his home church since 2001. He has shown great leadership with six new Sunday school rooms, a nursery and two bathrooms and a new fellowship hall. Also an enlargement of the auditorium with baptistery. May God bless his future ministry.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Christene Adamson of Liberty in their time of sorrow. Christene suffered a stroke several years ago and did not fully recover. She will be remembered for her love of Eastern Star, her efficient work as secretary at Liberty OES No. 488 and her love for her family. We commend her boys and family for the care that they provided for their mother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. “To live is to die,” the Resurrection. To know her was to love her. May God’s love and mercy be with this family in the loss of their dear mother and grandmother. A funeral ceremony of the Order of the Eastern Star was held Thursday evening at DeKalb Funeral Home, by her Chapter, DeKalb OES No. 488 of Liberty under the direction of sister Gay Vanatta, Worthy Matron.
The music class meets at 4 p.m. on Sunday, afternoon, Bro. Bobby Robinson, choir director, is teacher of the class. Reports say that is good.
