Dry Creek Flashes
Rain in the Valley

By Louise Frazier

This Monday morning, Jan.6, it’s a winter wonderland in our great peaceful Dry Creek valley. As had been predicted, the rain started about 4 p.m., and by 8:30 the earth, surrounding hills and driveways were a white blanket of snow, not too deep about a 1/2 inch, other areas might have gotten more snow.
The snow has shined brightly all day, and our driveway is clear. Snow remains on the fields and hills surrounding them.
There are no deer jumping through the hayfield, as they are smart animals and bed down when it is cold. We remember it being 30 below zero in the 1980’s.
We are excited about the game at the Rose Bowl which will be tonight. It used to be played on New Year’s Day in Pasadena with a parade of beautiful floats, mostly made with roses.
We have many ties to Auburn University. Dr. Barbara Frazier and her brother, Dr. Bruno Frazier hold degrees there. So does Geri, Bruno’s wife, and her daddy is head of the Electric Engineering Department at Auburn.
James Keyt’s son, Billy, played football at Auburn. Dr. Barbara Frazier and Todd Nuckles son, Sam, will attend Auburn this fall. The Frazier family will be cheering for Auburn.
Florida has to be good to be playing at the Rose Bowl. Hope DeKalb football fans will be watching.
Many people are sad because of the death of a loved one. Dry Creek Community extends sincere sympathy to the families of Judy Garland taylor and James “Duber” Miller.
Mrs. Taylor was the mother of our school teacher friend, Judy Fuson, whom we have known many years.
Mr. Miller was the granddaddy of our two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Olivia Miller of Lascasses. James and his wife, Naomi, lived on their farm until several years ago, when they moved to their property in Dowelltown. James was reared in the Shiny Rock Community on the McMinnville Highway. He was the son of a well-known citizen, the late Claude Miller.
May God bless these families in the death of their loved ones, and may they find comfort in God’s love and mercy.
Nora Harvey is at her home in the valley recovering from injuries she received while horseback riding near her home. She has seven fractured ribs, a fracture to her clavical bone and injuries to the neck. Nora is a registered nurse and works at Vanderbilt.
She is doing well. Our prayers, love and best wishes go to Nora.
Our community extends sympathy to the family of Steve White in its time of sorrow. His wife, LouAnn, was reared on Highway 70 just off the Dry Creek Valley Road, so we called her family our neighbors.
Steve’s life was short, but as people tell us, it was well spent and useful. May God’s love and mercy comfort and sustain LouAnn and daughters and other relatives and friends.
Correction: The Children of Jeanette France joined her for a delicious dinner on Christmas day at her beautiful country home in the valley. Those present were Randy and Tawaiana Box and family, Franklin, Danny and Debbie France, and sons, and Tim France and daughters.
