PROCLAMATION
Family History Month
WHEREAS, The National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century works to preserve the priceless legacy left by our colonial ancestors, and to convey the true meaning of this inheritance by reminding us of our privilege to live in a free country; and
WHEREAS, each year the JOHN MCKNITT CHAPTER Colonial Dames XVII Century sets aside the month of September as Family History Month to honor our courageous ancestors who settled in America, influenced mush of the direction and formation of our country, and sacrificed so much to make our nation what it is today; and
WHEREAS, within our Nation’s libraries and archives lie the treasured records that detail the history of our Nation, our State, our communities, and our citizens; and
WHEREAS, an ever-growing number of people in our Nation, and in other nations, are collecting, preserving, and sharing genealogies, personal documents, and memorabilia that detail the life and times of families around the world; and
WHEREAS, the study of family history gives individuals a sense of their heritage and a sense of responsibility in carrying out a legacy that their ancestors began; and
WHEREAS, interest in our personal family history transcends all cultural and religious affiliations; and
WHEREAS, the involvement of national, state, and local officials in promoting genealogy and in facilitating access to family history records in archives and libraries are important factors in the successful perception of nationwide camaraderie, support, and participation.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Tim Stribling, Mayor of DeKalb, do hereby proclaim the month of September 2021 as “Family History Month” and call upon members of the community to observe the month with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Tim Stribling, Mayor of DeKalb County, Tennessee do hereby proclaim September 2021 to be Family History Month.
