The FCE (Family Community Education) met for their monthly program on March 9 in the county community building on Congress Boulevard.
The hostesses, June Carter and Geraldine Cantrell, provided light refreshments, which are always very much appreciated. St. Patrick’s Day was properly addressed with matching green and white table decorations.
Natalie Green gave the devotional reading of Psalm 51:10. The psalmist asks for a clean heart and a new and right spirit within him. These wonderful words can make us think of the beauty of spring, as we take time for reflection.
Lenora Davis posed the question of the month, “What do you consider the first signs of spring and why?” Answers were given such as daffodils, forsythia, budding trees, fresh green grass, blue birds and other bird sounds. This brought special enjoyment to our participants.
Linda Rogers offered beautiful jade plants in an assortment of containers for sale at this meeting. The proceeds will be used for the upcoming cancer drive in our community. Needless to say, all plants were quickly carried away.
Priscilla Foster provided the FYI moment. She showed us many different ways to update our outfits for spring. Modeling colorful scarves, lace, jewelry, etc. in her own unique style.
It is amazing what one can do, and she surely brought our own imagination to life.
U.T. Extension agent April Martin was in charge of our program, “Think Green.” Green cleaning is becoming more and more necessar, in the chemical age that we live in. Aerosols, cleaning agents, air pollution, etc. have become part of our daily routines.
Handouts concerning these issues were provided at the meeting. A request was put in to the citizens and to give them the ability to learn more about it. The public can stop by the U.T. Extension office and possibly pick up some copies.
Emma Jean Dudney elaborated on household hints that were also very interesting and useful.
The FCE club will hold its annual yard sale May 3-5 at the community building. Please make plans to attend this very worthwhile and helpful cause.
The next meeting of the FCE will be April 12 at the community center at 10 a.m.
