“Your own wickedness will correct you, and your backslidings will rebuke you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing that you have forsaken the Lord your God, and the fear of Me is not in you,” says the Lord God of hosts. – Jeremiah 2:19
Sound familiar?
I never could have imagined the changes that would occur in the world since 1993. Yet here we are … in the depths of depravity. Every turn we make, evil looks back at us. We have drag queens who want to read to our children. We have hospitals wanting to do surgery on a child because one day that child decides to be another sex. I’d like to be skinny one day, but the next day I’m perfectly happy to eat cheesecake.
How many lives have been lost to an idea of a ‘woman’s right’ to have an abortion? How many children has God set apart to be an anchor in this world who never got a chance to even breathe?
There have only been two nations that have made a covenant with God: Israel and America. And while we allowed Him in our lives; our homes; our schools; our courts; our congress; our senate; and even the presidency, America prospered. But not anymore. The hedge of protection has been removed from our country. Why?
We no longer fear God. Technology has become our new god.
Children used to learn how to write cursive; write a cohesive sentence, spell and punctuate that sentence correctly. We have turned from reading the Bible. It is considered an outdated principle that really doesn’t apply to our lives any more. Even the beautiful prose written by Shakespeare, Jane Austin or Charles Dickens has been replaced by emojis and memes which used to be called cave drawings.
Israel had the same problem. They turned away from God and chose idolatry. Time after time God brought them back, and they turned away time and time again. Then Rome marched in. God allowed Rome’s Emperor Vespasian and Titus to destroy Jerusalem in 70 AD. The Israelites had rejected Jesus. Israel believed the Messiah would destroy the Romans and rescue them from their tyranny. But God had a higher plan; it was redemption from sin that the world needed. Jesus came in peace and love, but died a cruel death on Calvary for us all. The hedge of protection Israel had experienced in the past was lifted. They had turned away from Jesus and fell completely into bondage.
What Rome didn’t know was that by destroying Jerusalem and enslaving its people, the gospel of Christ spread throughout every Roman territory. A flame was lit that Rome couldn’t destroy. And now we stand on the edge of a knife. We no longer fear God. We have forgotten He is a jealous God and His vengeance is terrible to behold. As a result of our apostasy, I fear we are cursed.
There is only one hope for us … a revival so hot and all-consuming Holy Spirit that we bow in humility and ask for forgiveness and mercy. If we don’t stand firm in our faith, we won’t stand at all. All we need is a spark to flare in the darkness. … Will the light start with you?
