Being Southern, we have, in the past, been accused of being ‘backward’ or of ‘backward thinking’ by our neighbors to the north. I suppose we were called ‘backward thinkers’ because we stuck to our Christian values and tried our best to shun what others called ‘progressive thinking’. We were old-fashioned, country, and, therefore, a little dim-witted.
I wish I could say we still were.
It seems that everywhere you look and everyone you see is thinking backward. There was a time when there was an order to life that you rarely deviated from. People used to date, get engaged, get married, and then start a family. Nowadays, people date, have a family, and someday they might get married. While I do understand the view point of wanting to make sure of the ‘right one’, it seems we have just gotten all mixed up about life.
Young adults today don’t want to work their way up from the bottom level to executive levels; they want to start at the top and keep going. They don’t seem to want to put in the time or effort of learning what you need to learn by going up. They only want to get there as quickly as possible so they have the means to buy the fancy car, the beautiful home, and party on.
This country really needs to stop and evaluate the direction in which we are going. In every direction, I see nothing but dysfunction, from the top brass to the youngest members of society. Where are our morals? Our convictions? Our faith? We seem to have lost everything in the name of technology and extreme progressiveness. And in so doing, our advancement has eroded into backward living. It’s high time we stop to think about what we are doing and reverse our present course, or else risk losing the salvations of generations to backward living
