"And in other news, traffic was snarled in both east-bound and west-bound lanes of Hwy 70 today when a renegade pug evaded arrest. Despite its diminutive stature, the pug managed to evade authorities and bring traffic to a halt for approximately 10 minutes as both city policemen and the public attempted to capture said pug. The pug finally decided someone was trustworthy and turned himself in. Upon his capture, traffic was clear and there were many smiling faces who were witness to the scene."
It was the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. This tiny pug had a five lane highway at a complete stand-still. The funniest part is that he seemed to know he was in charge of this little comedy. He held his head high and seemed to be more irritated at his pursuers than anything.
As I thought upon this hilarious play, I realized each of us is like that little pug strutting in the middle of a very busy highway at rush hour. We wind our way through the maze of vehicles expecting each one to stop especially for us while someone is trying to ‘capture’ us. What we fail to realize, just as the pug, the pursuer is only trying to get us to safety; nothing more. He is trying because He cares. In fact, He cared so much that He gave His life for us.
Jesus pursues us, and we keep going our merry way never realizing what danger we are in. We weave in and out of close calls and circumstances we shouldn’t be in all the while thinking we know ourselves better than God does. How can we know ourselves better than our own Creator? Didn’t He mold us into the vessel He needed us to be? Don’t we realize it is He who is watching the traffic of life while we blindly try to run from Him?
Just like the pug, it takes us a while to surrender to someone who will offer eternal safety. While we are running around thinking we are free, we are only one step from total destruction.
If you are currently being pursued, surrender to Him today. It is only through Christ we are truly free
