From a Cracked Pot
A smiling face

Each morning, I stop at McDonald's for breakfast for two reasons: I don't cook, and Lori Adamson. Lori greets each customer with a bright smile and cheery “hello.” It's amazing how a simple act of kindness blesses my day. No matter how my morning began or what awaits me in the day, that one act of kindness warms my spirit; one that helps me know someone cares.
Too often, Christians are the grouchiest, moodiest people on the planet - myself being chief of them all. It's easy to see why all of us are grouchy: gas prices on the rise; unemployment; and an unsettled world make all of us a tad hostile. However, Christians have every reason tobeing happy. This world may tempt and try us, but we have an advocate with the Father. Why should we go from day to day with a constant frown? We are Christ's children, paid for by the blood of the cross. We stand to inherit an eternal kingdom with Him. What would it cost us to smile and greet someone with warmth? So many people are hurting in this world, all they need is to know someone cares about them. Are we really letting Christ witness through us with a frown?
We are called to be a living testimony for Christ, for His glory is in us. “The glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.” (John 17:22-23).
Are we really revealing Christ in us when we go about our day with bitterness, spitefulness, and clinging to material things? We belong to another world, a perfect world. If we confess Christ is in us, why do we not show Him to everyone we meet throughout our day? We never know who we will meet throughout our day. Will they see Christ and His love for them?
Remember to smile at someone this week; you may never know how much that simple act of kindness could mean to that person. Perhaps they'll look a little closer and see Christ in that smile.
