I will admit to being a huge 'Twilight' fan. It has enough romance to not be overpowering, and enough action to make it worth the read. For anyone who has read the saga or seen the movies, you all know Edward, the 'good' vampire. He is a beautiful creature; his skin sparkles like diamonds in the sun; his hypnotic eyes and scent befuddle his would-be victims, except that he is a 'good' vampire. In the saga, however, not all vampires are good, but all are empowered with the same beauty, along with speed, strength … and thirst. They are equipped to fulfill all human senses. However, they have no heart; only darkness inside. The beauty is an illusion, just as sin is an illusion.
We've all seen the cartoon image of the devil - horns, pitchfork tail, etc. No one would want to follow this childish version of the devil. However, in my view, Satan is much like the vampires of Twilight. He was the most beautiful angel in heaven, He was called “son of the morning” (Is 14:12). He does not show the world the monster within, but the beautiful form that entices lust, envy, and all manner of sin. Satan is The Vampire - preying on us all. He doesn't want our blood, however; he want our soul, sucking the life from us until we only see darkness. He is the father of lies, spinning a web of deceit to trap us. Sometimes, we become so entangled within that web, we cannot escape on our own, or even remember how we got there in the first place.
However, there is One who can free us; His beauty and majesty shines from His heart, the One that was broken and tasted death; One who took the sins of all mankind upon Himself - Jesus. He is the only One who can free us from Satan's elaborate web; all we have to do is accept Him. His beauty not only radiates from His outward appearance, but from His heart. There is no motive other than He loves us and wants us to have a life with Him.
Many have said, “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder”. However, true beauty comes from the heart. “People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within” - Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. What light is within you … the failing light of the 'son of the morning' or the eternal light of the Son of God?
