From a Cracked Pot
Cracks in the foundation

There is a commercial on local television that has given me pause to consider. “The foundation of your home is very literally the basis on which your house is built. Without the foundation, your home would have no support. Cracks in a foundation are not uncommon but indicate that your home is in need of some major repairs.”
Every time I see this commercial, I am reminded of the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:24-27: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
As Christians, our foundation is built upon the rock of Christ. However, the world today has seemingly chosen to build upon sand. We see the storms of life blowing around all of us in these troublesome times, and so many are crashing into the abyss. Even our nation, which once stood proudly upon the solid rock of the Gospel of Christ, has fallen into disrepair. The foundation cracks are widening and becoming increasingly unstable. But repairing that foundation begins with each of us examining our own lives. Do we put Christ's words into practice or do we only practice those instructions that we like? Do we share our foundation with others, or just watch as they continue to live in a house built upon the sand? Do we offer them the shelter of Christ when the storms blow and destroy lives, or do we stand by watching the destruction from afar?
There is only one cure for our lives, our families, our government and our nation.
We must turn back to God and allow Him to repair the cracks in our foundation. If we don't, we will be like the foolish man who built his house upon the sand; and we will fall “with a great crash.”
