From a Cracked Pot
The acorn

It was a beautiful autumn day. There wasn't a cloud in the blue sky. The brilliant reds and oranges created a breathtaking canopy for the young woman's walk. An offering of leaves fell before her on the sidewalk as she journeyed, so absorbed in the colors of the season, she failed to notice where her feet fell. It was a tiny little thing lying unobtrusively on the sidewalk, the little acorn. It had fallen among the leaves as a gentle breeze drifted lazily through the trees. She didn't notice it the acorn as she walked … until her foot came into contact with the small seed. Immediately her foot rolled out from under her; she heard a sharp “crack”' and felt immense pain in her ankle. It only took a second for the small acorn to cause such damage. What had begun as a glorious autumn walk had turned into weeks of recovery … all because of a small acorn.
Often in our spiritual walk, we don't notice the small 'acorns' in our path; those seemly small things that we do not think are very important: a small white lie here; a little gossip there; a little judgment here; a little pride there … all of these lead can lead to a stumbling block if we are not very careful to take care where our feet lead us. What we think of as harmless and inconsequential can lead to others being led astray or hinder our own walk with the Lord, interfering with our spiritual peace. It is often the small things in life that cause the greatest injury. While it takes only faith the size of a mustard seed to move mountains, it only takes an acorn for us to fall.
