The cat watched the little robin flit to and fro from its nest in the low branches of the tree. The little robin didn't know she was being watched; she was busy taking care of her own little world within the tree. The cat's yellow eyes narrowed as he thought how wonderful the little robin would be for his supper.
As the little robin hopped on the ground looking for her own supper, the cat dropped his body to the ground, ready for the opportune moment to make the robin his own. As the robin changed position, so did the cat. While the robin's instincts knew the cat was a danger, she simply ignored him as time crept by with no calamities. Each time the robin took a quick look at the cat; he always looked quickly away or nonchalantly cleaned his paws, seemingly innocent. So, the robin began to ignore the cat and forgot about him completely as she was too busy with her own doings.
The cat moved closer and closer to the little robin and her tree home. He waited patiently, always watching closely. The little robin was almost done and she hopped quickly before the sun set into darkness. In a swoop, a flash of fur was all the little robin saw; and all that was left was a handful of feathers, for the cat had won the battle.
It is so very easy to become complaisant in this life. We are as the little robin going about our business, trying to provide for our families. However, Satan is always lurking, just as the cat, to catch us off guard. He roams the earth as a lion, seeking to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Just as we let our spiritual guard down, he is there, ready to pounce. We must be ever vigilant against the whiles of the devil. While seemingly innocent, soon our heart is filled with hate, greed, and unforgiveness; and we are threatened to be consumed. We need to live every moment wearing the whole armor of God so that we can stand against the evils, “and having done all, to stand.” (Eph 6:11-12).
