From a Cracked Pot
On alert and watchful

I have to admit … I have more problems at work in the bathroom than I do at my desk. And not for the reasons you might think.
In the women's restroom at work, there are two stalls. A wall separates the door from the vanities so you can't see who might be in the bathroom when you walk in if they are standing at the vanity. You know how things get at work - your mind is going in a thousand directions trying to remember what you need to do for the day. I was having one of those days;  my mind far away when I walked into the bathroom.
Out of my periphery vision, I caught a glimpse of gray as I rounded the corner to the bathrooms. I almost passed out. My co-worker had heard the door open and was simply waiting for me to come in so she didn't literally run into me.
They said I screamed, but I don't remember screaming. She scared me so badly, my knees went weak. I almost passed out it scared me so bad. To make matters worse, she scared me the same way two days later not even meaning to!
Now when I go into the bathroom, I try to focus on the bathroom alone, ensuring I don't get scared of out my wits. I try to be on alert … always on the lookout for anyone else around the corner.
As Christians we should also be on alert and watchful for the coming of Jesus Christ.  Matt 24:42-44 “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming, But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Many is coming at an hour you do not expect (Matt 24:42-44). …  “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up (2 Peter 3:10).
How will it feel to have a dozen things on your mind, all things of this world, when all at once the trumpet sounds? How would it feel to be caught completely off guard on something we know is going to happen at any time? We must be watchful … and prayerful. We cannot take this life for granted. Even if we are already passed from this life when Christ returns, death could be at any corner and any time.
Let us wait and be ever watchful for whatever is waiting around that corner. “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches.” (Rev 16:15).
