Behind the milk

“Honey, where's the orange juice?”
“In the fridge.”
“Where?”
“Behind the milk.” Five seconds later: “I don't see it.”
“Look behind the milk!”
Ten seconds later, “It's not here.”
“Did you look BEHIND the milk?”
Fifteen seconds later … “I still don't see it!”
At this point, you're extremely aggravated because you know good and well that hubby has not bothered to move anything in the fridge. Completely exasperated, you walk to the fridge, pull out the milk and, viola … there's the orange juice.
“I told you to look BEHIND the milk!”  At this point, you're mad as a wet hen.
And hubby grumbles, “I didn't see anything behind the milk.”
“That's because you didn't move the milk like I told you.”
“You didn't tell me to move the milk. You only said it was behind the milk.”
How many times has this scene played in your house? Whether it's husband, child or grandchild, it's always the same. They never want to look behind the milk. Can I get a witness, people?!
Even though we don't realize it, we have this same conversation with God.
“Lord, if you'll just show me what I need to do I'll do it.”
“You know what you need to do. I've been telling your heart for months.”
“But Lord how do I know that's what you want me to do? Can't You just make it easier for me to know?”
“I've already put you on the right path and made a way for you. It's right in front of you.”
“Where, Lord? I don't see any path.”
“Move the doubt, unbelief, and jealousy, and you will be able to see the path.”
We strain our necks trying to look around it, but we can't see what God has before us because we refuse to move all these emotions aside to get to our path.
Let's face it, we like to cling to what we know; what we are accustomed to. We don't want to disturb anything in our life that will cause us to forgive, forget and move into a better spiritual place. We are too afraid God will ask us to do something out of our comfort zone; or He will expect us to do more than fill an empty seat at church. Sometimes we just want Him to move every obstacle in our path for us so we don't have to move at all. We don't see the great plans He has for us because we don't want to 'move the milk' aside. It's so much easier to let someone else move it. However, we can never become who God wants us to be if we don't make the time to 'move the milk' and step out on faith, even when we can't see the 'orange juice'.
