Garden vegetables coming into ripeness in June

Jared Hendrix and Michele Hendrix Kent surprised their mother, Kathy Hendrix, by hosting a family birthday party for her last Sunday afternoon at the home of Jared and Jennifer Hendrix, Dry Creek. The Frazier and Hendrix families gathered to enjoy food, fellowship, cake, and ice-cream. Kathy received many useful gifts. We were thankful to be able to attend this celebration for our daughter. She is a blessing to our family. We wish her another healthy year. Thank you to all that made this a special event for Kathy.

Last Tuesday Fay Adkins visited Louise Frazier. Fay is a wonderful caregiver and friend. She brought a bouquet of flowers from her yard; they are still beautiful, thank you Fay.

Jerald and Lisa Cripps were busy last week working with VBS at their church. It was reported that many children, youth and adults attended. A family day was enjoyed by all last Saturday with inflatables and food. It is exciting to hear all the good reports from these events all over DeKalb County.

The garden veggies are starting to come in. We have already canned beet pickles and zucchini bread and butter pickles. Our hope is to get some plums soon to can plum butter. Matilda Earl and Gail Thompson are good helpers during canning season.

We read about the fire at the Court House in Smithville. The willingness of Jim Judkins to take action and risk himself for others was outstanding. There seems to be so much violence and unconcern for human life by some in our society today. This is upsetting to hear on the news and read in the papers, so it is with a thankful heart the fire at the Court House did minimal damage. Thank you to all the firefighters and first response team members that worked hard to achieve their goal. We hope the cleanup group that has been called in will be successful in getting the building back in shape.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day last Sunday. Our family has a lot of great fathers that are raising their children up in church and teaching them good values.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to Bro. Joel Wood and family in the death of his sister. Bro. Wood is the pastor at Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church in Smithville.

Looking forward to the July happenings at Dry Creek Church: July 3rd America Patriotic Service with Special Music, July 5th Trip to Amish Country, July 23rd Chattanooga Amusement Park, and August 7th Dry Creek Revival.

Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit holds immense comfort. His followers are not alone. Though he is not physically present, Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to comfort and counsel his followers. Jesus also sends the Holy Spirit to lead them into truth.

"I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth."
