Well, here it is June, and it feels like mid August! I put in a weeping willow very early last Spring, and the darn thing is really weeping from the heat. Seems like it needs more water every day, kind of like me!
I really like being outside. I do drink a lot of water, but the last few days I've been growing gills from all the water I'm putting away. It seems like it comes out just as fast as I put it in. And the gardens are getting a lot as well.
I read, on the internet, that the Vikings left Greenland because of a “Little Ice Age.” I sure wouldn't mind a little cooler weather; like the upper 70s or low 80.
I had hoped that after I wrote the column about locating some good smoked sausage, that I would be covered with places to get the good stuff. Boy was I disappointed; not one response. That either means there isn't any good smoked sausage in our area, or, no one reads my column. I sure hope it's the first reason. It kind of looks like I'm going to have to make a trip to Louisana, for some cajun sausage, as soon as the gas price drops to $2.50 a galon You know what that means? I'll never see Louisana again in my lifetime. Maybe I can get it mail order; I'll have to look into that.
Food prices are going up, gas prices are going up, everything we have to buy is costing more. Are you bringing home more money to pay for it all? I bet you that you're not. Are you growing a garden this year? I think you will next year. I've been putting up peas so far; eating some as well. We're going to eat from our garden, as well as putting some up. Have to save somewhere! Everything that you eat from the garden seems to taste so much better than anything you can buy at the store. Even buying from a farmers market dosen't taste as good as what you grow youself.
I've got a dish you should try! In a baking dish, put a layer of olive oil in the bottom, then add about a dozen fresh basil leaves. Season some chicken breasts the way you like them, and lay them on the leaves. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Then, pour some honey on top of the almost done chicken, and bake for 15 minutes more. Take them out of the oven and let them rest for at least 10 minutes before you serve. Make sure you eat the baked leaves as well. You can tear or chop some fresh basil and sprinkle on top. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy! Til next week, be sure to thank Him for all you have.
