James Edward Mathis receives the DAR Good Citizen award from Cindy Dowell, Caney Fork DAR Chapter Vice-Regent

James Edward Mathis of Liberty was selected the 2017 DAR Good Citizen for DeKalb County High School. He is the son of Mary Mathis and Richard Mathis and has a younger brother, Will. The Daughters of the American Revolution give this award to one graduating senior in each class who exemplifies the qualities of good citizenship: dependability, honesty, humility, service to their school and community, leadership, patriotism-just to name a few of characteristics. In addition to being the DCHS 2017 Good Citizen James is in the 4-H Honor Club, has served as an office aide for the past year at DCHS and has recently received his Eagle Scout award. His Eagle Scout project was completing the landscaping at the Joe L. Evins Park around the gazebo. James worships at the First Baptist Church in Smithville and plans to attend Motlow Community College where he will study computer science in the fall. Congratulations to James Mathis as he continues to represent DeKalb County High School as an outstanding citizen in the future!
