I hope everyone had a blessed Easter. The weather was beautiful for any Easter event, family dinners, egg hunts, etc.
I was glad that I didn't have to rise early and attend a Sunrise Service this year which are very inspirational. When my husband and I pastored the Gainesboro church, we always had a sunrise service. Our last year there, my husband arose at 5 a.m.(he was a morning person, I'm not) and reminded me of the service. I was very sleepy and didn't want to get up. "Tell everyone I'm sick this morning and can't make the service." That didn't go over too well. "Then tell them I ran away from home." "OK," he said. " Stay in bed 20 more minutes and maybe you'll be ready to get up. You don't have to dress up, just put on something casual and you can come back and dress for church."
So I did. After the sunrise service, a big breakfast cooked by the men, the children's egg hunt,Sunday School and church, I was ready for a siesta, ZZZZZZ!
We have a celebrity in our midst. My sister called me one day last week and said, "turn on channel 4. J.J. is on." So I did and lo and behold, there saw J.J. Poss and her orthodontist, Dr. Chitwood, being interviewed by Holly Thompson. J.J. was very poised and looked beautiful. She had dental surgery by Dr. Chitwood and was explaining how she survived it.
Earth Day was April 22 which reminded us to recycle. When we lived in Cumberland County, we recycled everything--bottles, cans, newspapers. They were urging evryone to take a canvas bag to the grocery store rather than accumulating all those plastic bags. It seems they are turning up evrywhere and the birds and other animals are choking on them. So let's do what we can to save the planet!
There was an article on the internet about the big flu of 1919 where alot of people died. There was one family that didn't get the flu and the reason discovered was they ate onions. There were incidents where onions were setting out in bowles and they had turned black. They absorbed the virus. My dad was a big onion eater and fed them to me when I was a toddler. My mother asked Mr. Norval Webb Sr. at Webb's Drug Store about me eating onions. He replied, "it won't hurt her; it will make her sleep." So that's a good home remedy.
I forgot to tell you the anchor men who wear bowties. They areWalter Cronkite and Larry King. I even saw Mr. Cronkite while vacationing at Martha's Vineyard one summer.
The biggest news in downtown is the Sidewalk/Indoor Yard Sale at Country Treasures this Thursday and Friday, 9-4 p.m. There will be new vendors outside with lots of treasures. The Flower Box next door will also be participating, all on West Walnut Street.
My thought for the week is: "Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil---it has no point."
Amen.
J.J. is a celebrity
