Kentucky Derby a disappointment
carolgunter

Do you have a bucket list on the day's jobs you hope to get done?  Today before the rain and the possibility of severe weather moves in, I hope to do some spray painting, plant the yellow dinnerplate dahlias, use Roundup, and thin weeds out of a flower bed or two.

Ran up on some friends of mine in Smithville last Wednesday. First one I spotted was Julie Fite.  It had been a while since we had spoken.  She was doing some grocery shopping like me.  Julie's like family so I was glad to see her.  Speaking of family, I ran into Jessica Warren and her two sons, at the store, also.  Good to chat with them.  Also, two ladies from church Vicky Hawker and Wanda Dunham were picking up some last-minute grocery items.  They are a joy to be around.  Vicky's dad, Norris Harrison, will be "90" years young on September 21st.  Norris is still serving the Lord each and every day. He is such a blessing to everyone he meets.  I know he has blessed me from the very first day I met him.

I watched some of the Kentucky Derby and found it a disappointment with so much buildup for betting and all the alcohol that was flowing all over the place.  Like other venues that are taking place nowadays, so many people go over the drinking limit and do they ever want to be seen making complete fools of themselves on camera before millions of people.  They certainly accomplish that, in my opinion.

I got to thinking how people that attend church and raise their hands in worship and praise to Jesus Christ are criticized and made fun off by those that don't know Him and are truly lost.  Christians, for the record, are not lost because they know where they are going. Told a friend of mine if I do watch any of the derby next year, it would be for the last fifteen minutes of the race.

Hats were plentiful at the derby.  One I saw looked like a peacock.  Another one was made to look like our solar system on top of the lady's head which made me think there could have been aliens in those thousands of people!  Beautiful hats of every description were on display.  It was a rainy day, but that didn't dampen the spirits of the people that attended.

It is now Sunday, May 4th, and we are experiencing some colder temperatures in the fifties instead of the seventies as is normal for this time of the spring season.  More chances of rain coming our way this week.

Please keep in prayer:  Dusty Johnson, Mary Melton, Diane Evans, Walter and Faye Ferrell, Rose Watts, Joe Gunter, Donald Ferrell, Wanda Dunham, the people of Israel and Ukraine, the leaders of our country, and the families of Jack Parsley, Michael Prater and Ronald "Wormy" Parker.

After watching the horse race, I turned the channel to get some news of the day and there was Beyonce at a concert with thousands of fans living it up drinking and having a good ole' time.  This happens not only at her concerts.  Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and others appear on stage half-dressed evidently, in my opinion, because they have no respect for themselves or just maybe their talent for singing is lacking.  Some of these singers today have disgraced country music and those true icons of country music that were of yesteryear.  They have families and are setting the wrong example in the way to dress decent.  I feel like we are truly in the last days before Jesus will come back at any moment.  Masses of people will gamble on their lives in this world, but will not gamble on Jesus the One that will save their soul and guarantee they will live again after they die here.

Have a great day!

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.  Psalm 51:10
