Do you remember live without an air conditioner? I remember when I was growing up in Alexandria which was a long time ago we had these big window fans. Well, I thought there were big, I remember talking and hollering out of them to hear how it made my voice sound. I can’t remember being so hot I could not sleep but, I do remember getting hot and jumping in the spring or the creek. People worked outside a lot then and would only go home for lunch or eat where ever they were at in the field or stop on the side of the road. But most people did come home if they were farmers. I think things went downhill when we got our first air conditioner. Well, it was nice to have and keep us cool and comfortable but that is when I started not being able to stand the heat. I think you can tolerate more as a child you are outside having fun and not worried about the heat. But now this generation is not used to being outside a long time without the convenience of an air conditioner. I am not complaining I don’t like the heat either. But the things I use to do outdoors children do not do now. We moved to Smithville when I entered the third grade. So I had friends and neighbors all around. We played outside from daylight to dark. We knew it was time to be home by 4 p.m. And my moma knew I was around the neighborhood somewhere. Our mothers just hollered our name and one of us would hear it so we knew it was time to go home. Seems like even bicycles are a thing of the past. I went everywhere on a bicycle. Robbin Walls Poss and I would ride all over the place. We even rode to the Smithville pool at that time and that was a ways away. But it didn’t seem to bother us any.
Please continue to pray for the ones that have lost loved ones. Pray for this world that it may turn away from sin and reach out to the Lord. Pray for the rioting, fighting, and the crimes that are committed.
May God bless you all!
