Local singer records first album
refuge w sm

The Refuge, with Smithvillian Samantha Lewis on vocals, has recorded an album.
In the studio, the band consists of Lewis and Eric Upshaw.
“Eric wrote all the music, played all the instruments and recorded everything himself,” Lewis told the Review. “When we play live I play the piano, and we bring in other people to play with us.”
Lewis said the sound is modern and faith-based.
“It’s Contemporary Christian. There’s a little something in there for everybody. There are up-tempo songs and ballads and everything in between,” she noted.
“God has given us this talent, and we’re just trying to give a little back to him,” Lewis said.
The Refuge will play an acoustic set at Whorton Springs Baptist Church tonight  at 6 p.m., and an electric show at the DeKalb County Complex on April 13 at 6 p.m. Admission is free for both shows.
They will also play a benefit show on April 5 at College Heights Baptist Church in Gallatin.  All proceeds will go to help a family adopting a child from China (http://www.thetaylorfamilyadoption.blogspot.com).
Tickets are $10.
The show starts at 5:30 p.m. and The Refuge will go on toward the end, around 7:15-7:30 p.m.
The Refuge’s CD can be downloaded on iTunes and Amazon, and will be available for purchase at the band’s shows.
Any pastors or youth ministers interested in having The Refuge lead an evening of worship or a youth event, whether it be an upbeat full band or a scaled down acoustic setting can get in touch with Upshaw at therefugemusic@yahoo.com.
