People often ask me what my sisters have to say about my writings about my ugly sisters. Well, for the most part they seem to be just fine with it. One of my sisters has now gone on to be with Jesus, but before her time came to go to Glory they came to visit with Laura and me.
We caught up on a lot of talking, and they offered a few words of criticism, concerning the things I had said in The Needmore Chronicles. Somehow, I got the idea that they were not pleased with all my stories, although I didn't catch exactly what the problems were. They sure were waving their hands around making faces and fists at me, all the while yelling things at me. They said something about lies, bald faced lies, black lies, half truths, and family secrets. I didn't get it, but I suppose it must have been something I said in the book.
Well, anyway, it didn't take long for them to get it out of their system and they seemed to feel better after that.
Much to my chagrin and worry, ugly sister number one mentioned a dress shop in Murfreesboro. I tried valiantly to change the subject, not liking the direction the conversation was headed. My efforts were in vain. Ugly sister number two joined right in and agreed that we ought to go shopping. Even my good wife Laura got carried away. I was hurt and disappointed that she fell in with those two. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Well, you guessed it, we went shopping at the new dress shop in Murfreesboro, or at least they said it was a new shop. Can you imagine what a wonderful time I had wandering around in that dress shop? I thought they would never tire out. I believe we might still be in there looking at dresses if I hadn't offered to buy everybody's lunch. It cost me, but at least it got us out of there.
Someone asked me if the dress shop had good prices. I didn't see anything that sounded cheap to me but the prices must have been good.
My stingy sisters bought some. A good time was had by all.
Joking aside, it was a joy to see family and visit with them. When God instituted the family, He gave us one of our greatest blessings. Don't let the years slip away without spending time together.
Oh and yes... some have wondered what I called them to their face. Well most of the time I called them darling and sweetheart, but sometimes I said beautiful or lovely, but my most common words were yes ma' am and no ma' am.
