Eating boiled okra

Dooley left the table gagging, heaving, and trying to make himself throw up.  He had accidentally swallowed a big mouthful of boiled okra. It was so slick he let it slip down his throat without meaning too.
It seems Dooley had been aggravating his sisters again, as he was so often prone to do.  He had been holding a big spoon full of boiled okra up in the face of Helen Sue, threatening to make her eat it. Ms. Josie caught him doing it, and was about to take a switch to him. She made him put it in his own mouth and chew it up.  Although he meant to go outside and spit it out, he accidentally swallowed it. Dooley had sworn no boiled okra would ever pass between his lips.
“Eweep,” he gagged as he jumped up from the table and danced around on the kitchen floor. “I have done poisoned myself on ‘boiled okrie,’” he exclaimed as he headed out through the back door.  Ms Josie and the girls didn’t seem too worried about him, figuring he would probably live over it.
After a spell of pouting, Dooley slunk back into the kitchen to finish his supper.  When he thought no one was looking, he took out a whole portion of boiled okra and cornbread, along with some beans and what was left of the fried, side meat.  It seemed that he had liked the taste of it a whole lot better than he had ever thought he would.
Sin has worked like that with many people. They never really planned to become caught up in breaking the commandments of God. In fact, many had sworn never to be guilty of such conduct.  Once we start to experiment with sin and play around the edges of wrongdoing, it becomes ever more likely that we will allow some of it to slip into our life. How many have acquired a taste for some particular sin that had once seemed so ugly and repulsive to them?
