Needmore Days
There just aint no fox hounds in Hunter Cove

Needmore was not a good place to get directions.  It wasn't that the people didn't know where everything was or where everybody lived..
Most knew exactly and that was part of the problem.  No one knew any of the highway numbers, and most of the roads had no signs telling what road they were on.
There was the day that a shiny black car pulled up at Cousin Billy Clyde's house looking for Vanus Maynord. “Who lives here?” the stranger asked Billy Clyde.  Daddy and Mama and us was his answer.
“And does your daddy have a name,” the stranger asked.
“Well yes,” Billy Clyde said.  “His name is Buel Hall but everybody calls him Poog.”
“Could you tell me how to get to Vanus Maynord's house, I am wanting to buy a fox hound from him?” the stranger said.
“Well I'll be glad to,” said Billy Clyde.  “You go right back out the way you come and turn left. But don't turn left on the first road, that would take you down in the Hunter Cove and there ain't no fox hounds in Hunter Cove.  Go to the next road and turn.  Don't turn right, that would take you back to Needmore.  But, if you should turn that way, Hi Zachary lives out there and he has some fox hounds you might buy one from him.  If Hi don't have one drive on down to Uncle Artford Mayberry's he has a whole bunch of fox hounds.  If you go on down to his house  you will come to a fork in the road and you take it.   Be sure not to turn right because that goes down in the Hunter cove and there ain't no fox hounds in Hunter Cove.  Just turn left when you get back out to the highway and that will take you right out to where Vanus's place is you can't miss it.  You will need to turn left on the last road out thatway. You will go right past Dooley Ray's and you will know you are almost there. You will pass the Cordell Seber place, and there is a little road right before you get to his place but don't turn left there, that ain't the right road.  That road is closed now anyway, and if you could get through there, it just goes down in the Hunter Cove and there ain't no fox hounds in Hunter Cove.  But just keep going out that road until the last gravel road you come too, and turn left right there.   You will come to a fork in the gravel road but don't take it,  that road goes around to Sam Wilburn's  house and he ain't got no fox hounds.  Take the other fork around to the Maynord place.  Now if you happen to miss that road, you will go on a right smart piece and come to another gravel road that turns to the left.  Be sure and don't take that road because that takes you right back to Hunter Cove and there  ain't no fox hounds in Hunter Cove.  Just turn around and head back this way until  you get to the road that turns out to  the Vanus place.  There used to be a big tree that stood there but somebody cut that down.   A lot of the time there are two black cows standing out there where you turn, but sometimes they are on the back side of the place and you can't see them from the road.  I don't see how you could miss it, but if you do come back out here and I will tell you again.”
The stranger never showed up at the Maynord place.  “I don't know what ever happened to him,”  Billy Clyde said.   “I sure hope he didn't turn left down at the foot of Coffee Mountain, ‘cause that takes you back in there to the lake and there ain't no fox hounds back in there.”
I sure am glad the directions from God are much more clear that that. There are just two choices listed in the Bible.  Both roads are clearly marked.  The narrow one leads to Heaven and the broad road leads to destruction... and there ain't no fox hounds there. Be sure to choose the correct one.
