As the weather forecaster predicted we got the ice and snow and we continued to get the ice and snow. I cannot tell you how many times I lost electricity but with that being said I must say Caney Fork Electric done an excellent job fixing it each and every time. Caney Fork along with Smithville Electricity, DTC, Road Supervisor, Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Firefighters, Doctors, Nurse who continued to go to work and see to the sick, the EMS service workers, and anyone else I am sure I forgot. You continued to serve all the people in DeKalb County. Also let’s not forget the heating and air businesses they have been out fixing units during this winter freeze. Thank you.
I must say this has been a hard week for everyone whether you were trying to get to work or staying home. Douglas and I watched trees in the woods just fall it was like a big white explosion. Luckily we didn’t lose any trees in the yard. I do know now we have a lot to be trimmed or cut down. I am very thankful for my gas logs. The gas logs kept us warm while we had no electricity. I also got to use my oil lamps which I think are beautiful in the dark. We all need to stay prepared for the days when we do not have electricity. Keep nonperishable food on hand crackers, peanut butter, snacks, tuna in packets for easy open, there are so many things you can have. I made chili and put it in the crock pot on low and when the electricity went out we still had something warm to eat.
On Facebook I saw so many people doing different things to stay warm and fix food. Michiko Martin was using her Girl Scout stove to cook breakfast one morning. My brother, Paul Rowland was out grilling country ham on his grill, Jeff Parsley was also taking advantage of his grilling skills and cooking outside also. Terry Page and Lisa Puckett had a gas oven going and she was baking bread. Brenda Adcock broke out a percolator and was making coffee in her fireplace. Shout out to these people for teaching us a few tips.
Please pray for the ones that may be without electricity or may be homeless during this time. Pray for ones that have lost loved ones and pray for each other.
