Christmas as a little girl

Mabel Pack received a phone call from her sister, Joann Dacey of Australia. She enjoys hearing from home. She hasn’t got to visit for several years, and it means so much to talk to family members. Nancy Cassity visited her Monday.

 

Get-well wishes to Jennifer Pack Nichole. She was involved in a car wreck, and has been in Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville.

 

George and Loretta Inglish of Arrington, Tennessee visited Susan and Phil George Saturday. Phil is doing pretty well now.

 

Recent visitors of Barbara Self were George and Loretta Inglish and Carl and Frances McBride and Mary McKenzie.

 

Faye Adkins went to Murfreesboro shopping Saturday.

 

Buford and Hazel Mullican’s family gathered at their daughters home, Don, Treva and Chace Bryant. They also gathered on Christmas day for a big lunch.

 

Mary Jane and Billy Hooper and Johnnie Ruth Hunt visited Sue Cook Sunday. They visited Statesville Methodist Church Sunday with Sue. The church had their Christmas program and dinner, and the Hunt sisters sang.

 

Mt. Herman Baptist Church had their Christmas program Sunday night.

 

Bobby Ruth Fish’s family and some friends all gathered at Temperance Hall Community Center on Sunday to have Christmas dinner and good fellowship together.

 

Sue Arnold visited Darlene Conley Sunday evening. Her brother passed away earlier, Ronnie Anderson.

 

Sympathy to the family of Darlene Sandra Cope in her death.

 

Visitors of Betty Wilson were Ralph and June Vaughn, JoAnn Pittman, Rebecca Ervin, Randy Vaughn, Angie Meadows, Faye Adkins, and Betty Byford.

 

Sympathy to the family of Eva Dean Duke in her passing. She fought a hard battle to get well and she will be missed.

 

Family members gathered at the home of Rebecca Ervin for Christmas breakfast and exchanging of gifts. Several attended. They had a wonderful time together.

 

I love to get Christmas cards and always have. This year I received 48, with many of them having family pictures on them.

 

I had several telephone calls on Christmas day, which I enjoyed. Of course I always enjoy talking on the phone.

 

A good part of the day on Christmas was spent thinking about those who sent me cards, and also reminiscing about when I was a little girl and how much my family celebrated on Dec. 25.

 

My daddy would get up early and build a big fire in the fireplace. I could hardly wait to get out of bed and run to the kitchen. We didn’t have a tree, but Santa would always leave something on the kitchen table; usually an apple, an orange and sometimes a stick of peppermint candy.

 

I am amazed at how many things children get for Christmas now. I bet children today are not any happier than I was back then.

 

As I sat in my easy chair on Christmas day and got caught up in my memories, I felt blessed. Let me use this means to wish all my readers a Happy New Year.
