Veterans Day commemorates the courage and patriotism of all men and women who have served in the United States Armed Services. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 4 as Armistice Day to remember Americans of the tragedies of war. In 1954, Congress established Veterans Day to honor all American veterans. On June 1, 1954, President Eisenhower signed the bill into law, officially renaming Armistice Day to Veterans Day.
Sunday, May 24, was Homecoming Day at Dry Creek Baptist Church. We appreciate all those in attendance. Jerry and Susan Hinton of Smithville came; Susan played the organ. Wanda Frazier and family came with Pauline Frazier. Rosie Young of Smithville and Lisa Cripps of Liberty also attended. It was good to see and talk with Larry Boss and his grandson of Alexandria. Larry’s father, Rev. Clay Boss will be remembered as a wonderful pastor of Dry Creek Baptist Church. Other visitors were Allie and Nellie Cummings of Lebanon. The congregation was given time to call out loved ones names during a remembrance time. Bro. Donald Owens brought an inspiring message from 1 Thessalonians Chapter 5 verse 10. After the blessing was given, an estimated number of 150 enjoyed a delicious meal together prepared by the church committee. The church is 126 years old. Those missed due to sickness were Hartford and June Lewis, Sarah Walker, Bob Earl and Linda Fuston.
We enjoyed a visit from Tim Hines on Wednesday morning. After Tim left, we spotted a Turkey with one little poult ,a baby turkey, following her in the corner of our yard. They disappeared into the tall grass of the field for the remainder of the day.
Saturday was fish day for some of our great-grandchildren. Jerald and Lisa Cripps of Liberty, Jordan and Nicole Cripps, Christian and Claire of Dry Creek, and Matthew and Melody Cripps, Owen, Ledger and Kaius of Murfreesboro all enjoyed fishing at the beautiful country home of Clark and Kay Lance during their annual kids fish day for Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. A few adults joined in on the action. The group enjoyed a beautiful evening together. An outdoor meal was prepared for the group. Christian age three and Owen age two both caught their first fish. Fun was had by all.
Vacation Bible Schools have started in our churches. It is exciting to know the word of God will be shared with the young children. Please seek out VBS, and let your child enjoy the fellowship and fun.
Matthew 19:14 (NIV)14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
