Friends Ricky and Sherry Gannon, Crystal Gannon and Holly Gunter
stopped by on Saturday for a visit before Christmas.
Rain showers on and off Saturday with heavier rainfall coming in
late Sunday night and continuing on Monday, Christmas Day, and very
breezy. Instead of snow we're getting rain for Christmas. Maybe next
year we can get a White Christmas.
Nice when friends drop in during the Christmas season to be with
you for awhile. Some things never change even with the passing of
time as friendships mean more to you each year. Debbie Little,
Derwood Stewart, Russell Taylor, Connie Cantrell, Burley Bogle, Rick
and Beverly Hubler are all well and looking forward to Christmas. Was
given a "huge" box of candy for Christmas. I guess I'll be putting on
a few more pounds that I don't need but that will be alright as I
certainly can't let this gift spoil.
Rex and Sepal Pedigo and I spending time with each other over
Christmas. Also, daughter Kristie Johnson, son Chandler Johnson, and
Marie Johnson came by for a visit.
The day after Christmas quite gloomy with fog, drizzle and left
over mist to bother people that are out and about traveling this
Tuesday. We've managed to survive the hustle and bustle of Christmas
and most of us, I guess, are looking forward to the New Year of 2024
and wondering what it will hold for us. Just how long the war will go
on for Israel is anyone's guess, but Israel has to finish the job of
wiping out Hamas. Their freedom depends on it. Terrible that over
twenty-thousand people have been killed in Gaza but that is sometimes
the cost of war. We need to keep Israel in our prayers. They were
attacked and have the right to defend themselves.
New Year's Day around our house will be celebrated by black-eyed
peas and hog's jowl and side items at the dinner table. People
celebrate the day differently across the country in what is put on the
dinner table. "Aubrey's mom Mildred" always made sure we had
black-eyed peas and hog's jowl. She also told me not to do any
housework that day or I'd be doing housework every day of the New
Year. I took her seriously at every word and never did push a broom
or mop that day. In fact, I still carry on that tradition to this
day. I figure anytime we can get out of housework, go for it. This
was a perfect excuse for me.
A beautiful bluish-gray cat is roaming around on our patio this
evening. Didn't dare open the patio door as it would take to the
hills like that black cat did last summer. From time to time I do see
that black cat but I'm at a good distance from it.
Mai Nell Melton and Gracie Bratcher spending some time together
last week. Both are doing well.
Football game on the tube last night. It was the Baltimore
Ravens and the San Francisco 49'ers playing each other. The Ravens
came out on top 33 to 19. Won't be long until the football season
comes to an end.
Been watching this show Midsomer Murders. Two detectives trying
to solve just who is the murderer can be quite a difficult task, but
they manage to be like Columbo and get their man or woman. The actor
John Nettles and his sidekick Lt. Troy really work good together. If
you like detective shows, I believe you'll get hooked on the show,
too.
Please keep the following people in your prayers: Cecile
Ferrell, Mary Melton, Sepal Pedigo, Tony Neal, Rose Watts, Charlie Mai
Daniel, Walter and Faye Ferrell, the families of Alene Ferrell, Doris
Estes and Cynthis Hill in the loss of their dear loved ones, and the
people of Israel.
Talked with Betty Sue Hullett of Indiana, Brenda Neal and Diane
Evans last week. They were all well and enjoying the Christmas
season.
The weather is going to get colder around here this week so if
you can, check in on the elderly and the shut-ins in your community.
You could be a Godsend to them as they may be in need of groceries,
prescriptions from the drug store, or other errands you could help
them with. You might not think this is a big deal to do these kind
deeds for them, but it will mean the world to them when they can't do
these thinks like they used to do. We all get older and at times we
need help and are grateful that someone cares. May they see the love
of Jesus, not you, in your kindness of letting them know there are
those that do care about them. You can't imagine the impact you will
be making in their lives.
