North students sweat for a cause

Climbing, crawling, jumping and running, the students at North Elementary were doing it all Friday afternoon all in the name of better education.

Their first ever fun run obstacle course was held behind the school with the student body sweating for a cause.

“We decided that fun run was no longer fun,” PTO leader Amy Tobitt admitted. “So we wanted to incorporate something a little different.”

The result was a fun run obstacle course, complete with several separate areas where the students are challenged by things like the army crawl where they crawl under a barrier. There are also climbing, hopping and running games the students enjoyed.

The idea behind what began as the fun run was to raise money to help Northside School. “Our goal is to help purchase smart boards or if there are any other educator materials that’s needed. Anything for the classroom, that’s what the funds go to.”

The students will collect money through sponsorships for their participation in the obstacle run. The students can win prizes for collecting the money.

“They also get rewarded by getting to come out here and have fun,” she said. “It’s a good way to have fun and raise money at the same time.”
