Groundhog Day 2020, is February 2, 2020 this is when the groundhog comes out of its home to predict the weather. If a groundhog can see its shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. If the ground hog cannot see its shadow, spring is on the way. I hope he puts some shades on and see’s nothing bring on springtime. Groundhog Day, has its roots in the ancient Christian tradition of Candlemas Day, when clergy would bless and distribute candles needed for winter. The candles represented how long and cold the winter would be. Germans decided to select the hedgehog as a way of predicting weather. When they came to America, German settlers in Pennsylvania continued the tradition, they changed from the hedgehogs to groundhogs, which they had plenty of in the Keystone State. In 1887, the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club declared that Phil, the Punxsutawney groundhog, was America's only true weather-forecasting groundhog. So it’s up to Phil, makes us proud Phil.
We don’t seem to have a winter anymore, when I say that I am thinking about a nice fallen snow that sparkles when the sun is shining on it. Snow deep enough to build a nice snowman, and have a great snowball fight. Just for a day or two. Growing up I have seen this wonderful snow I could not wait to go out in it and play. Here in DeKalb County we need bigger closets since we never know what we can wear the next day. We can’t move our switch our summer or fall and winter clothes out. Boots today flip flops tomorrow.
Stay in unless you have to go out. The Flu and viruses are
terrible. Remember wash hands as soon as possible or use hand sanitizer.
Prayers for: Chad Kirby, Loyce Holcomb, and Kimberly Violet these people are
sick. Continue to remember the families that have lost loved ones: The family
of Judy Anderson, the family of Frances Stults, the family of John Henry
Thweatt, and the family of Fay Nixon.
Everyone have a blessed day.
