Prepare for Fair
fair 2
The familiar sights and sounds of the annual Grandpa Fair of the South aren't that far away. Slated for July 16-21 at the DeKalb County Fairgrounds in Alexandria, the fair welcomes entry in a variety of events and contests. Fair books detailing entry deadlines are now available at a variety of locations including the Smithville Review office.

The fair books have arrived heralding the approach of the Grandpa Fair of the South coming July 16-21 to the DeKalb County Fairgrounds in Alexandria.

This year’s exhibition will include a return of the demolition derby at T.C. McMillen Arena and the renewing of the Lip Sync Battle. There will also be pageants on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night.

However, given the excitement always generated around the fair which comes on the heels of the Fiddlers Jamboree, fair organizers want patrons to be aware of entry deadlines that will fall somewhat early this year because of the timing of the fair.

“We want everyone to be aware so they get their entries in before deadline,” said Angie Meadows, Lion’s Pavilion Coordinator.

Entry dates are for non-perishable items is Saturday, July 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and for perishable items Saturday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A complete breakdown of times and rules can be found in the fair book or online at www.dekalbcountyfairtn.com.
