Saving energy is a good thing
Musings of an old guy

As the title to this column says, I'm an old guy who muses! That means I think a lot, sometimes to my own amazement. I like to expound on things other than local stuff from time to time. How about this? I chose to save some energy today! You know that the world is starving for energy, even if it's oil, natural gas or the so called green power (that seems to be make believe). So being the good steward of the land that I am, I determined that "today" I could save some electrical energy. I didn't put in my hearing aids today.
The batteries didn't get any use today, so I’ll get an extra day of use from them. Cool! I also saved some of my energy today, because my wife asked me to do something and I didn't hear her. So, whatever she said, I didn't use the energy to get it done. Works for me! [Sometimes] Now, I'm not advocating ignoring your spouse but sometimes it just has to be done in order to save those batteries. Right?
Actually, I saved a lot of energy today.  I didn't mow the yard, I didn't weed eat, and  I didn't plant anything or harvest anything, Heck I didn't even walk outside to get herbs for dinner. I'm guessing that will change when the sun comes up in the morning. Since I actually goofed off all day, I'll have to double my work load tomorrow just to keep up. That sounds like fun.
My wife just reminded me that I agreed to go to the Smithville Review for the open house tomorrow. That means that Thursday is going to be a killer for not saving energy, but I do get to goof off two days in a row. And that I like!
One of my neighbors is having medical problems, and it must be pretty serious. I don't see much of him anymore, and when I do, he sure looks rough. I hate things like this, especially since he's so much younger than me. Makes me ask why I've been so lucky all my life as far as illness goes. I guess I'll not get an answer any time soon.
I think that I'll hold off on finishing this until I get back from the open house at the paper tomorrow. Maybe then, after talking with Miss Angie, she'll let me deal with some of the bigger things that face not only us here in DeKalb County, but in the state and the country, because I've mused much on the condition our great country is finding itself in, and I have a number of opinions that I'd like you to hear and think about.
The Next Day:  I survived the open house. I'm not sure Miss Angie or Reed survived me. I met some nice folks and had some nice conversation. In short, I enjoyed myself. Mr. Ben, it was a pleasure to meet you. I met Sheriff Patrick Ray and his nice better half.
While the sheriff and I were talking, I mentioned that on some weekends, late in the evening there’s a bunch of young folks that park just three or four hundred feet from my house and set fire to some stuff that I know is not only illegal but not good for them in several ways. The sheriff said that he'd see what he could do about getting them to move along. I know he's understaffed, but there are just some things that require looking into. Thanks, Sheriff Ray!
Reed Vanderpool, I like you. Even with the age difference, we have quite a bit in common. Ain't that scary?
Miss Angie, you are a cute bundle of energy. It was a real pleasure to finally meet you in person. Diet drinks and chocolate cake; now that’s a balanced meal for ya!
Alright, all you readers out there, remember to say a good word for me, because tomorrow I make up for two days of goofing off. I'm lucky though, I have Him helping me and helping you as well.  See ya next week.
