Students at Smithville Elementary School joined millions of their peers across the country to celebrate the annual "National Education Association’s Read Across America Day" last week. Special activities were planned during the entire week in honor of NAE’s Read Across America Day, which celebrates Dr. Seuss’s birthday and the joys of reading. Students in all grades participated in various author studies, especially focusing on the life of Dr. Seuss and the hundreds of books he wrote. Following is a list of events held at Smithville Elementary last week.
Monday: Students read "The Cat in the Hat" and "Fox and Socks". Students were encouraged to wear crazy hats and silly socks.
Tuesday: To celebrate "I am Not Going to Get Up Today," students wore their pajamas.
Wednesday: Students read "Wacky Wednesday," and dressed in their most outrageous wacky outfits.
Thursday: In honor of Seuss’s "Many Colored Days," students wore their favorite color.
Friday: To wrap of the week, students wore all things Seuss! Many dressed as their favorite Seuss character, while others wore their favorite Dr. Seuss shirt.
Of course, individual classrooms read and celebrated other titles, these were those that were school wide.
