Two hometown professional musicians, Stacy Lawson and John Powell, will perform their unique brand of music Sept. 15, 4-7PM at Metcalfe Park near Liberty Square with a full pavilion of vendors and entertainment for the kids.

“I am an Americana singer and songwriter who comes from the hills of the Cumberland Plateau in White County Tennessee.” Mr. Lawson says, “My background comes from bluegrass but has evolved into a style of folk, country and gospel music which has touched audiences from all walks of life.”

Songwriting and singing with his rich down-home vocals and guitar presents in his music a true Americana flavor and realism which has consistently demanded repeat engagements. Included in Stacy’s songwriting catalog is his song ‘Bon Air Mountain’ written for the folks on the mountain and those with ties to a happy and honest way of life.

“I started playing professionally in 1964,” Powell says, “I was a ‘horn’ player early in my career, but I have been ‘on bass’ ever since.”

John Powell, a Sparta, TN native is known for his career in radio as a DJ and entrepreneur. Powell is a professional musician who does session work and has played with Charlie McCoy of Charlie McCoy and the Escorts, studio work in Nashville, Muscle Shoals, Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles. A bass player by choice, Powell decided to give back to the community that he loves so much.

The Sparta Green Market is the place for growers who have honey, seasonal plants, vegetables, meat, fruits, and flowers to meet hungry patrons in an entertaining atmosphere.
