This autumn weather is awesome! Enjoy every minute of it.
The trees are beginning to take on bright colors of gold and red.
Folks, this is good weather to travel.
Speaking of traveling, Pat and Larry Tatum have just returned from a historical and fun trip up East. Their first stop was Dollywood in Pigeon Forge where they met some Nashville friends there. Then they headed out on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Their first stop after that route was at Appomattox, then on to Monticello, home of the third president of the U.S., Thomas Jefferson, in Charlottesville,Va. They lodged in Manassas, Va., and caught the Metro (subway) in to D.C. where they viewed the WWII, Vietnam, Korean and Martin Luther King memorials and toured the Smithsonian Museum and other Washington sites. A good trip!
Congratulations to Dr. Bill Tanner, principal of Smithville Elementary School, on being selected as Principal of the Year. He is a good administrator and cares about his staff and the children there. He also has a good sense of humor which helps. I know as I sub out there. Also his secretary, Rhonda Pelham, was #3 Secretary of the Year. She is a multitask person in that busy office and handles people and the problems like a pro. Congratulations to both!
Last week was Fire Prevention Week and the Smithville firemen visited all the schools and day care centers. Deputy Chief Hoyt Hale explained to the children what to do in case of a fire in their home. Assisting him was Capt. Jeff Wright and Ronald Whitaker, fire fighter.
Of course, the fire engine always impresses the children. They will be visiting the Headstart Center later this week. Valuable information for the children.
Happy Birthday in the latter half of October to:
Faye Iverlett, Jean Meyers, Pauline Cantrell, Juanita Hooper, Claudette Lasser, MIke Clendenen, Gail Bishop, Lillie Vaughn, Adam James, Westley James, Betty Jo Hardiman, Rev. Terry Little, Tom Hill, Brenda Hooper, Little William Blair, Annette Greek, Harold Martin, my cousin Larry Lockhart in Nashville, and good friend, Glenda Adkins Watson in Hendersonville.
Get-well wishes to Angie Meadows on her accidental fall. That gal needs some quick healing for her busy life.
The invitation is still open for consignors at the Methodist Fall Bazaar on Nov. 4. Call the church, 597-4961, to sign up and details.
Saturday was Standing Stone Day at Monterey. Tennessee Central Railroad came up from Nashville and stopped in Monterey. So I took my great nephew, four-year-old Eli, up there to ride the train up the tracks to the Salt Mines. He pressed his face against the window to watch the land go by. There was a renactment of a Civil War Battle. Eli said, "This is awesome!" Later as we walked the Monterey streets, we encountered the soldiers. He slept all the way home. (Hope to have a pix of him next week.)
Enjoy the Columbus Day holiday. Amen.
