Chivalry is not dead

This week has been centered around paying property taxes, ice and snow, a few school days available, etc.

I promise to share with you about the Ides of March since this is the third month of the year next week.

Paying my property taxes on Feb. 28 was not so painful this year. Pretty Melissa Yarborough in the Trustee's office was very helpful, while Sean Driver looked on with a good sense of humor.

Chivalry is not dead! I was in a local grocery store last week, in the checkout lane, when a gentleman said, "Excuse me, madam, but your shoe is untied. I looked down and sure enough it was! (I am always reminding the students at school about their shoelaces being untied and suggest that they tie them. The common answer is "I don't know how," So I solicit the group nearby, and one of them will volunteer to tie them.) To get on with my story, this gentleman squatted down and tied my shoe. I thanked him. I had never had this experience before. My only regret is that I didn't get his name.

So, my heartfelt thanks to this gentleman out there somewhere! I say again, "Chivalry is not dead."

Gladys Simpson is the only birthday gal I know who is younger than her years. Why? She was born on Feb. 29, which we don't have but every 4 years, so that makes her four years younger than her biological age. Right? She is a friend of mine and a very sweet, kind lady. We used to go to church together many years ago.

Happy birthday in the first half of March to Shea Vaughn, Irene Young, Dalton Theriaque, Regina Estes, Charlotte Barnard, Jeremy Judkins, Faye James, Dr. Scott Little, Thomas Webb, Lela Ambrose, Robert Patrick, Derek Driver, Thomas Perry, Melanie Judkins, Jerry Williams, Robin Driver, Candance Vaughn. Our family has three on this list, so I assume that we will be eating lots of birthday cake and ice cream.

Happy anniversary to Alan and Lora Webb on March 10; Wallace and Carolyn Caldwell on March 14; Russell and Melissa Oliver on March 18. Oh, I forgot to name my ol' high school friend's birthday on March 12, Ethel Ann Tittsworth Webster who lives in Knoxville. If anyone out there has a birthday or someone in your family, give me a call.

Get-well wishes to: Elene Hayes, Louis Goolsby, Jesse Bishop, Kathy Beck. Lewis Conklin and Margaret Ann Robinson in Birmingham.

Our concern and prayers to Doyle Hendrix and his family on fire destroying their home on the Sparta Highway.

The Bright Hill Methodist Church is asking for donations of new, unopened personal care items and house cleaning items suggestions for the first week in March are: baby powder, baby wipes, baby wash, baby shampoo and bubble bath.

Call the office (597-4961) for more information as the drop off place. Thanks to all who donate and bless you.

New knowledge of the week: Lincoln was the tallest president, at 6'4", while President Madison was 5'4", the shortest.

Amen.
