The Amen Corner
Flagging down cars

We were blessed with sunny weather on Easter Sunday, which was very desirable for egg hunts and family gatherings.

Our family gathered at my sister’s home after church Sunday. We also celebrated my nephews, Robin Driver’s belated birthday. Each child got an Easter basket filled full of goodies (not candy).

I attended Mary Snow’s 92nd birthday at The Webb House Saturday afternoon. They were around fifty people who came by to help Mary celebrate. Her daughters Mary Beth and husband, and Robin co-hosted the event. It was good to see so many good friends there such as Myrtie Young, Ann Cantrell and Yolonda Moore there.

Get well wishes to Tom Hill, Lora Webb, Linda Judkins, Betty Bailiff, Hilda Meyers, Jack Cantrell, Elene Hayes, and Margaret Ann Robinson in Birmingham. Janey Knowles visited her recently.

I’ve often said that Smithville had cordial people. I had my great nephews in the car one day where I let them out at a site on Sparta Highway to let them go to the bathroom. But they kept walking farther and farther away from the car. I had another child in the car, so I couldn’t leave her.

So I went to the side of the highway and started flagging cars down. After several cars didn’t stop, one woman did. She realized my problem and volunteered to catch them. A teenage boy with her also ran to catch them. Amanda was my Good Samaritan, and the boy too. For helpful people like Amanda and the boy, I appreciate them and thankful for them.

It’s income tax time! So if people seem grumpy, maybe that’s why.

Thought of the week:

"Smile and have a merry heart:" Amen.
