The Amen Corner
Another Busy Week

Whew! Another busy week. I subbed at SES one day for the Gym Teacher. Also, the photographers are coming back on Aug. 20 to make student pictures. Wear something bright and colorful!

Last Saturday night there was an auto accident near Curtis Lane on the Sparta Highway. I heard a helicopter hovering over our houses, evidently trying to find space to land. So many red and blue lights flashing. Never heard the results!

Then Sunday morning I was getting ready to get in the shower when I heard a loud boom! I ran out on the porch and my sister, next door, came out. We surmised that it was the transformer across the road as our power went out.

My neighbor across the road confirmed that their power was also out. I called Caney Fork Electric and they came out about 20 minutes later with their bucket truck. I admire those men who left their warm beds to render the company service on a Sunday morning.

Shortly we had power and especially our morning coffee. Thanks to Caney Fork staff!

Later, off to church we went! The Bright Hill Methodist Church was having their annual homecoming after church and invited us at Smithville First United Methodist Church. I attended and took my great-great niece, Kiana Driver.

This church is a very active church, mission-minded, and also has a lot of good cooks. Thanks for your hospitality. We didn't stay for the special singing as it was nap time!

Aug. 22 is the annual Crafts Fair at Beersheba Springs (up above McMinnville). Lunch is also available on this date at the big hotel up there.

My nephew, Robin Driver, and I attended the funeral of Jewel Lockhart, our uncle, on Wednesday at Philips-Robinson Funeral Home in Nashville.

I did a befitting eulogy for him. One of the stories I told was about him having a beautiful horse, Prince, and letting me ride with him. My grandmother Lockhart would get excited and holler that I should not be riding on this horse since I was about 5 or 6 years old. He would laugh and tell me to just wave at her as we rode by.

Get well wishes to: Lora Webb, Tom Hill, Laird Barnard, Jerry Williams, and Sara Brown.

Also congratulations to Brian and Rebecca Hollander on the birth of Abigail who was born last week. Tom and Marie Hill are the proud grandparents.

Sympathy to the families of Jewel Lockhart and Toy J. Fuson. Both grew up in Smithville.

Belated birthday wishes to Turner Bryant, Jack Loeband others who have a birthday in August.

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: "In the blink of an eye, everything can change. So forgive often and love with all your heart. You never know when you may not have that chance again."

Amen.
