It must be May

April showers bring May flowers! So true! My knock-out rose bushes are in full bloom!
May events are Mother's Day, May 13; Memorial Day, May 28, High School Graduation, National Day of Prayer, May 3 on courthouse lawn; Last Day of School, May 23. Also don't forget the Storytelling Festival, May 5 (Saturday), 1:30-4:00 p.m. at the Courthouse Basement. "Yours Truly" will be telling a story and the topic is “P.W.”  Come out and listen to some good storytellers.
For further info, call Susan Hinton or Dot Tittsworth.
Happy birthday in May to Laird Barnard, Jackie Overbey, T.M. Hooper, Marie Hill, Joe Driver, Amanda Blair, Walter Burton, William Cain, Rev. Mark Pafford, Jane Cantrell, Emily Bass, Nate Lasser, William Clendenen, Justin Hooper, Spencer Iverlett, Mildred Poss, Charlene Ward, Becky Roberts, Carol Hendrixson, Sally King and Lucille Gollnitz.
May anniversaries in next week's issue. Belated-birthday wishes to some of my close friends: Fay Fuqua, Lounette Braswell Nicol and Rosemary Twilla Jarvis.
I attended Reta Steffee's retirement from the Methodist Pre-School on April 24 after 24 years teaching there. She and her husband, Rev. Larry Steffee moved here from Florida. She has also taught in Headstart and the middle school. Many good retirement wishes, Reta. Further info and picture in next week’s issue.
If you have extra time, stroll around town and find some unique shops. Met Patricia in Edith's Resale Shop on Main Street, next door to Miroir, Miroir the other day. She told me about an event scheduled for May 19, noon to 5 p.m. Stay tuned on that event.  Fluty and Marilyn at Fluty's have some good sales on their nice clothes. For those who sew, there's Sew  Clever Fabric Store on Main Street.
Then there's always Annette Webb Greek who has good gift items for all ages at Webb's Drug Store on the Square. It's nice to shop at home.
I was invited attend a worship service and dinner at Woodlawn UMC Church in Crossville last Sunday. When we lived in Crossville, my husband and I attended this small church, just offf the Jamestown Highway. There was a warm family spirit there. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that this was a "Welcome Back Day" for me. Nice to be remembered by ol' friends plus lots of good food there.  We organized many good Bible Schools there.
Good to see the big crowd at the Green Brook Park Spring Event last Saturday. I took my little great-great nephew, Taylon, there and in spite of all the attractions, he was fascinated by feeding the ducks.  Children love the simple things in life. A good lesson for all of us.
My advice for everyone: Friendship isn't about who you have known the longest. It's about those who came and never left your side.
Amen.
