Mother's Day is a nostalgia time for me since the loss of my mother.
People say that my sister looks like my mother, known as “Snooks,” but I act like her.
Always on the go and involved in a lot of activities. Sometimes our family will sit down and reminisce about some antics about our parents and most of them are humorous.
Dad used to tell a tale about her. Mother loved excitement. When the fire alarm went off, she would jump in the car and get to the fire before the fire chief, according to my Dad. Believe it or not!
Someday I plan to write a book about my parents. They were not dull and had a good sense of humor which I think my sister and I have inherited. A sense of humor helps to get through the day sometimes.
I attended the Headstart Graduation ceremonies at the Smithville Headstart Center last week. There were so many relatives and friends there but Donna and Leanna had prepared lunch for all who came. Guess I'm partial to this program since my husband, the first director of LBJ&C, used to go to Washington to get grant money for it. Then Charles Robinson, Michelle Southard and I are on the Policy Committee and meet monthly. The 74 Headstart students had made their own graduation caps with their names on top. They were an active, excited group. (see the article and picture elsewhere in this isssue.) Kathy Lester is acting director while Cheryl is out on medical leave.
Then I attended the seventh Storytelling Event at the Courthouse last Saturday. Susan Hinton and Dot Tittsworth need to be congratulated on their organization of this event. Maybe someday we can become just like Jonesboro where the national storytelling festival is held every year.
My husband and I used to attend that event in Jonesboro, a quaint little town, every year and I always came away with some good suggestions. I told my "P.W." story in the local one here. Had to follow Ben Harris Herman, who told some whoppers.
Did anyone notice the unusual brightness of the moon this week? Haven't read about the uniqueness of it but it appears to be brighter than usual. Don't know how long it will last but do peek your head out and view it. It's closer than it has ever been.
Did anyone go to the Kentucky Derby? If I had gone, I would have been focusing on the women's hats rather than the horses. (Naturally, I love hats.)
Get-well wishes to Sarah Brown, Linda Judkins and Janey Tittsworth Rawls. Sympathy goes out to the family of Violet Fuson. She was a very dynamic person. I remember her parents who were well known school teachers.
Another reminder about the "Shutting Down Main Street" event scheduled for May 19. The Living Word Fellowship is sponsoring it from 12-5 p.m. Patricia at the Resale Shop says that there will be free hotdogs, drinks and music. So come to town!
"When Satan reminds you of your past, remind him of his future!!!!" Amen.
