Ballgames, Vacation Bible Schools, and vacations  are keeping children and adults busy this month. Good ol' summertime!
Happy birthday to these early June bugs:  Bill Harpole, David Colwell, Matthew Stribling, Pier Smith Vaughn, Pat Tatum, Maria Little, Dr. Will Sherwood, Paul Dillen, Sadie Driver, Matthew Cain, Cecil Burger, Matthew Hendrixson, Milas Driver, Dr. J.C. Wall, Rebecca Hill, Will and Zack Tatum, and John Cain. Anniversary wishes next week.
First Methodist children and teenagers are looking forward to their VBS this year. They will be studying the Bible in an exciting Bible Bowl with games, crafts and Bible contests starting Sunday evening, June 17 through June 21. The fun starts at 6 p.m. each evening.
Also the Methodists met their new youth director, Jennifer Parrish, at a dinner following the worship service last Sunday. She will officially begin sometime this summer.
Don't forget Flag Day, June 14. Let's show our American pride by displaying the American flag.
Get-well wishes to Eddie Sutton, custodian at First Methodist; Charlie Mai Maxwell (a schoolmate); John Loeb; and Rev. Steve VanHooser, a young minister friend of mine from Gainesboro.
Remember Father's Day on Sunday, June 17. Of course, we should honor them every day according to the Scriptures.
The Class of '54 Planning committee will be meeting on June 12 at 11:30 a.m. at the White Possum. They are planning their three-year reunion for this year. Bill Hendrixson of Crossville is the class president.
If you live in the city or have property in the city, get out and vote on June 19. It's one of our American freedoms.
I had a moving sale last weekend and several people stated that I looked familiar.  Then I asked them, “Do you read the Smithville Review?”  Then it dawned on them that I am the writer of this column.
Our concern and sympathy to Frank Colwell who lost his barn last week due to fire. I understand that he did save his equipment and some hay.
Can anyone name the four seasons? Oh, that's easy, you say!  Well, it's salt, pepper, mustard and vinegar? That's an e-mail I got from one of my friends. Amen.
