Get-well wishes to Anne Morse, surgery; Frank Buck, and Tommy Reynolds, an accident in Chattanooga. He is a cousin to Sherry Bush and an uncle to Suzanne Williams.
Sympathy to the families of Dick Clark, a popular band-leader for many years, and Charles Colson, 80, a former special counsel to President Nixon.
Big Orange News this week is that Pat Summitt, ladies basketball coach for 38 years, resigned due to health problems. She was an in-law relative to my husband in East Tennessee.
Happy Birthday to Queen Elizabeth in England last week who was 87. Her hat was very striking. (Being a hat person, I notice hats.)
I viewed the Shuttle Discovery in their transfer ceremony in Chantilly, Va., last weekend on TV. Sen. John Glenn was featured. For those who went on some of the senior citizens’ trips, we toured this Smithsonian Air Museum in Chantilly recently. Did you notice, Wanda?
Charles Robinson, Michelle Southard and I attended the Headstart Policy Committee meeting last Tuesday in Cookeville at the LBJ&C headquarters. The purpose of this meeting was to meet with a federal representative from Washington, D.C. to assess their headstart program. Some were a little nervous with meeting with them but the reviewer put everyone at ease and helped the committee members to share the good aspects of the pre-school program in this area. Robinson and I represented this county's Headstart center.
I attended the Emmaus Gathering at Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church last Saturday evening. The meeting opened with a worship service in the sanctuary with Katherine Pack playing the piano for the inspirational hymns sung. Bill Gash and Trent Colwell gave personal testimonies. After the communion service, everyone enjoyed a covered dish supper in their Fellowship Hall. Larry Elliott is chairman of this group. The next meeting will be on May 19 in Crossville. Further information is on Facebook.
I was blessed with two good Samaritans this past week. I had bought a microwave and it was so heavy that I was perplexed as to how I would get it in my kitchen. from my car.
My broken hip was one barrier. With my pasture rented, some horsemen were down at the barn so I prevailed upon them to help me. One man volunteered. Guess what his name was? Must have been an angel as his name was Gabriel. He said he was one of the workers on Hurricane Bridge. Then on another day, my tire light on my car dashboard came on.
I stopped at Kwik ‘n' Eazy hoping to find BeBo there to check the tires. A real nice clerk named Tina came out with her gauge and found the low tire. Then she put air in that tire.
I was so impressed at a young girl having this knowledge. God was good to me last week.
Did you know that a mule won't sink in quicksand but a donkey will? Did you know that most people lose their teeth under 35 years of age due to athletic trauma, fights or accidents? Reminds me of one evening when a group of high school girls and I were racing to the bathroom at Sunrise Grill and I fell on the outside corner and broke out a tooth? Yep, I did.
Did you know that most people, especially women, fear spiders more than death?
Thought the above was valuable information that everyone needed to know. Amen.
